does anyone know of a good source of calcium? dolomite lime is hard to come by in these parts and i would rather not truck an hour to the hydro shop for some cal-mag..
Milk, specified orange juice, brussel sprouts, asparagus, and whole bunch of other dairy products and green veggies. I also have calcium supplements (I'm kind of a Calcium lover) oh and chalk, eat lots of sidewalk chalk. (pink preferably)
would you recommend mixing milk into water and feeding with that? sounds kinda funny, but then again this is a day when people depend on manufactured bottles with a known NPK. would it be possible to make an extract using the vegetables you mentioned?
The best stuff you will ever find is called CalMag+. Its made by Bontanicare Pureblend Pro series. Calcium and magnisium def. are the most common defiencies in soil. Calmag will stop it completely. The + means it has other trace minerals which soil is usually lacking. I started half my plants using this and the other half not. It became clear very very fast what was going on. The ones without started showing signs of calcium and magnesium def. quick. After giving calmag to them for a week or so they were back to healthy green plants. Im telling you man, i wouldnt grow in soil without this stuff. There are other brands of CalMag but they are all called CalMag or something like that. I just use pureblend and earthjuice so thats why i recommend the particular brand. Go pick some up and you can jsut thank me later j/k. But youll love it i promise. Edit: WOAHH!! I just read your post above this one. DO NOT GIVE MILK! Yes its calcium, but there are different types of calcium. I cant think of the kind right off the top of my head thats in nutrients. But its water soluble of course. Cannabis uses different forms of nitrogen, phosphate, everything! Theres different forms and they do different things and are taken up in different ways. Milk is not good. That is not the kind we are looking for. My friend had this idea too and gave it to his plants and killed them immediatly. All it does is rot in the soil. Pretty sure you will have soured milk in your soil. Get some calmag dude, its all organic so dont worry about that.
Oh really? Not nitrogen by any chance? The most common distress question on this forum is essentially "help, why are my leaves turning yellow?" and the answer invariably is "N def". To the OP, are you suffering an actual calcium deficiency? I'd like to see pics. I agree with Corey not to add milk. I agree with the essence of his point about different types of minerals -- in one sense nitrogen is nitrogen, there isn't different nitrogen. But with many other needed minerals they are delivered as part of a chemical compound (such as phosphate to deliver phosphorous and potash to deliver potassium). The wrong compound could have the mineral you need but either won't break down for the plant to uptake it or else breaks down into undesirable components that can harm the plant. But...if you do have a calcium def you need to look at a few things before you try to fix it by adding more calcium. First, how is your pH? Many nute deficiencies are caused by whacked pH, which affects the plant's ability to uptake nutrients. Also, calcium is susceptible to lock-out from too much of other nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous, and particularly potassium. So you could be delivering enough calcium already and adding more will only hurt your plant. I suggest ensuring your pH is in range and flushing your soil to clean out any nute build-up. If you really do have a calcium deficiency not caused by a lock-out, dolomite lime and CalMag really are your best options. You could try some garden gypsum, but that stuff can be tricky and actually can cause a reaction that hurts your plant.
yea the milk sounded like a bad idea lol, though an organic extract of veggies sounded promising.. the first picture is the more damaged leaf set, and the second shows how it is progressing upward. the help is appreciated! thanks guys
Yuk! That does have the appearance of a calcium deficiency, though I can't say definitively that's what it is. I still suggest approaching it first by ensuring pH is in line and flushing the soil well.
yeah i would recommend cal-mag plus as well. if it's really a hassle to drive to the hydro store u could always order it online, unless that's an issue. a bottle of cal-mag willlasts a long time since u only use 5 ml / gal, so it would be worth it for sure to get some .
Dang it toasty, do you have to disagree with everything i say? If you knew anything you would know that calcium def. and mag. def are usually confused with nitrogen def. And if you would read into what i say you would see it said Most common in SOIL. And yes, they are the most common in soil. I dont care what you say about this one. Hell, even on the back of the CalMag bottle it says that. Sure people ask why their leaves are yellowing and alot of people say nitrogen ONLY because nitrogen is pretty common and the signs are yellowing leaves. But if you think about it the signs of ALOT of problems are yellowing leaves. But you failed to mention it depends on WHERE the yellowing occures, HOW it occurs, WHEN it occurs. Most soil doesnt have enough calcium and magnesium it it. Thats why lime, dolomite, ash , etc etc etc are added to almost EVERY SINGLE SOIL YOU CAN BUY OR MAKE! Look dude, you dont have to disagree with everything i say? The poster said he thought he had a calcium defiency and wanted to know what to do about it and you found it necassary to start some more shit? Seriously dude, whats your problem? I mean you seem like a very very intelligent guy. I didnt even think to tell him about nutrient lockup or out and that could very well be what it is. I think you should ALWAYS make sure your ph is right before you start adding more nutes or taking away nutes. Its just a shame that your attitude gets in the way of your intelligence sometimes. Sometimes its ok to not disagree with me or hell even if you do disagree you dont have to say anything man. Just give me a break, its getting old. Your buddy cupcheck isnt being a dick any more, we talked about it. You dont have to give ME hell all the time. I havent done anything to you. Anyways, to the original poster go to http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=11688 and check out the pics. There are a few that look EXACTLY LIKE YOURS, specifically CALCIUM defiency and MANGANESE defiency which Calmag plus fixes too. Or check out http://www.ganjaguerrilla.net/ which is an AMAZING site for figuring out problems. They have sections on N, P, K and also pH related issues which like Toasty said, i think is what you might be having a problem with. I think your pH being off is whats causing your calcium to be messed up. But that is an awesome page dude, check it out. And actually on the 2nd site i gave you go to Streaming Videos up top and it has a video on pH and flushing which is VERY VERY informative.
i just checked the pH with a soil test kit and im guessing its about 6.7...looking around it seems like thats a fine pH level, but i had to check out the greenhouse video on youtube since im growing out arjans haze3, and they are giving it a pH of 5.9 at the stage of growth my plant is in...do you think i should lower it? in the video he says he actually brings the pH up from 5.5 to 5.9 so if we are both growing in soil mixes it looks like im wayy high. any thoughts?
Corey, I said explicitly in my post that I did agree with you on some points. On others I disagreed with your advice, I didn't take on you. There's a lesson in that somewhere...
Toasty is very good at what he does but sometimes seems to step on toes, but his intentions are true to the successful grows of our members(as i have found) and i would trust his input as i have tested it to be very accurate.
Really, you do what needs to be done and ppl will learn this in their own time.As i have done, ist all about respect man.
