So today I was told by an aquaintance that he was a huge Marley fan because he recently procured Legend (Marley's "greatest" hits). This is not the first time a moron has uttered this statement. Naturally, this angered me, so I decided to deal with it the best way I know how...Ranting about it to people I don't know on the internet. Suprisingly enough, Bob Marley has songs that aren't on Legend. Bob Marley has songs that are better than some of the songs on Legend. Memorizing Marley's most popular songs doesn't make you his biggest fan, just another idiot who worships Legend. Arg. Alright, I'm done. Sorry, this just irritates me almost as much as people who claim to be DeadHeads because they have Skeletons in the Closet, or those who claim to be huge Floyd fans but have never heard anything but The Wall/Dark Side of the Moon.
I didn't once claim to be his biggest fan. Get over myself? Don't be so quick to jump all over my post in an attempt to show me up, try reading it first.
Damn. Pretty harsh, but they have a point. I am a fan of alot of people in which i do not own 1 of their cds. I think it makes hima pretty big fan to spend the money on the CD. Im sure you were not born a Marley fan, it is an evolution, you should know that if you are as big of a fan as you come off as. Most people get hooked on the singles and explore deeper. Let him enjoy and help him on his journey.
It wasn't until after my rereading my post in a more sober mindstate that I realized I didn't get my point across. I am sick of people who latch onto a particular musician merely because they have a big following, and not because they particularly enjoy the music, then go buy a greatest hits CD and proclaim themselves experts. I don't think you need to own every CD that an artist has to be a fan, but if you're a true fan and respect the music, then you should do it justice by searching for good songs rather than just the regurgitated the overplayed stuff on a greatest hits disc (even though some of it may be good). The particular acquaintance I was talking about is the type to latch onto popular music without actually listening to them or really knowing them (the type who will buy a CD merely to say that they have the CD). Thanks for that intelligent insight.
I dont really even like Marley. I have Legend and a bootleg from '75... I just burned them onto CDs a few days ago. His music is bland compared to other reggae bands that I know of... well, one reggae band in particular.
