Buying First Computer, Help?

  1. I know someone that got a cyberpower PC, they're not bad. Those prices aren't too outrageous either. Definitely seen worse.

I'd say, learn a few things before jumping into building a computer. Maybe get a cheap Asus prebuilt until you feel more confident to build your own.

Depends. If you need a PC and don't need to take it with you anywhere, just look for something mid range on Newegg. 500-600 dollars and you can get something that'll do pretty much everything you've described. Make sure it has 8gb of ram, and look up the graphics card models to see what people say they're doing game-wise on it. Processor wise, you can probably find a decent quad-core CPU in that price range also. This is without a monitor mind you, those can go from 100-300 extra depending on what you want.

This is an example. People are playing Guild Wars 2 on it on the highest settings. I'm sure it can handle most games that come out. 1TB of hard drive space is an OD amount, and 8gb of RAM is pretty good. Processor isn't bad either. My desktop is a 3ghz 2 year old processor and runs Skyrim on high. My graphics card is crappier than this one also. I have an old nvidia 9800gt lol

If you're looking for a solid laptop that will last you years to come, stick with a Mac. I'm a windows user, and not once have I had a laptop that lasts WELL past a two year period.

I've owned Toshiba, Compaq, Asus, Acer, and Dell, and HP laptops. All have considerably slowed or had major hardware issues right out of their warranty periods (usually one year after purchase). My ASUS has a blue screen of death, never once used it for porn or anything that would fuck it up. It was simply a word document typing instrument for school related shit. My HP is slower than a Windows 98 machine, I've had it for two years and have done everything from defragging my hard drive to keeping constant anti virus on it. My Dell died 4 months out of its warranty period. My Toshiba's hard drive failed once in warranty, replaced, and died 6 months later outside of the warranty period.

For a laptop, I'd stick with the mbp. You can get a three year warranty on it, and you can go to the apple store for a fix (as opposed to shipping off the laptop to whatever manufacturer and paying an assload for a fix anyway). And no, I'm not an apple fan boy. I have friends with Mac books well into their fifth year, I've NEVER had a laptop last me over 2 without needing a good bit of expensive maintenance. I'll pay the extra premium up front to have a product that works, and a company that backs said product up with actual physical locations to talk to someone and get it fixed.
