Buying a truck, have a question

  1. I am thinking about buying a 2002 Chevy silverado . It is in good condition and all but it has
176,805 miles on it. He is asking $5,000 but I might be able to talk him down. Should I go for it? I know it has a lot of miles but... I dont know I need a newer truck for around $4,000 to $8,000

  2. id do like 2 G's...

it also really depends on which one. silverado what? 1500? 3500 LS with all the options?

    lol

    1500 extended cab

  4. Id offer like 3 grand thats alot of miles.

  5. What motor?

    4x4?

List all info you can on this truck. You didn't give us hardly anything.

And for 8K.... Shit, I'd have me a badass 98 chevy. 8K nets a lot on CL these days where I live. Hell I can find nice shit for 3K.

  6. No way in Hell I'd buy a chevy with more than 100K on the clock. At 180K miles, I seriously doubt this truck has $5000. worth of life left in it. $1500 maybe.....

  7. Man, the model chevy's before the ones he's talking about still book for like 4K even with high miles if they're in good shape. So 5K for this truck isn't to unbelievable for me. My dad had a 98 a chevy 4x4 a couple years ago with 220K on the clock, he still got it sold for 5K.

  8. That's crazy ^ I bought a '98 Jeep, the absolute top of the line for that model with 204,000 kms on it for $2000. Those prices are insane!

Why do you need a newer pickup truck?

  9. $5,000 seems a bit high, but the 1500 is a good truck, and extended cab gives you the option to throw a ton of stuff in there. I didn't have an extended cab on my first truck, but it would have been nice.

See if you can't bring him down enough where you have a little extra to spend on mods if it needs any. Good luck :bongin:

  10. Shit, wished you lived closer. I've got a 2007 Silverado 2500HD WT 6.0l I'm selling. Just turned over 97k on odometer.

Taken these pair to two different dealerships this past week to get separate prices on both. Both places offered me 5-6k for the truck alone. Now that's trade-in value.

That's just to give you an idea about how much these trucks are really worth. I know location makes a difference, but I wouldn't pay 5k for a 1500 with 176k.

  11. Yea... fuck no would i ever pay 5k for a 1500 with 176k miles on it.

its worth like 1000, 1500 at the most id say.

unless its super clean and you want to put some money into it like new engine or engine rebuild.

like the guy above me said, you should be getting a newer truck for the price or a cheaper price for that truck lol.

  12. The cost you should consider is the cost to fill the gas tank...
