Burning smell

  1. Well to be honest I thought my rig was okay but I think my HPS is fucked.
    I have a 400Watt HPS running on a standard coil/core ballast.

The other day I was adjusting my light, and without thinking, unplugged my ballast, and plugged it right back in.
Now after doing so I immediatley facepalmed, realizing my mistake. I could also smell something burning, no idea what it was though. After that my bulb just doesnt have the same orange glow it used to, it looks almost whitish, like a halide.

My question is this, defuq did I do to my light? And do I need a replacement(I'm thinking I do).
So happy I payed extra and I got a warranty on my setup.

  2. If you were to open a ballast you would see a circuit card and associated electronics. Your ballast most likely burned out a component meaning you need a new ballast. Sucks but how it is.

I would not be using that anymore as you run the risk of further damage or a fire.

Yeah I thought maybe the ignitor burnt out but it couldnt have because it still starts.
Ill be replacing that as soon as possible, I cant have my plants getting the wrong spectrum during flower, and I dont need a fire starting from my grow light becausd that could end horribly.
