Each passing day I feel like the world goes a little more insane....... It's Barbie in a burka: World-famous doll gets a makeover to go under the hammer for 50th anniversary | Mail Online Why is oppression of woman seen as a "tradition" when its done by Islamic extremists? Since when are Burka's "Traditional Islamic dress"? Whats next, a black barbie with mutilated genitals? How about a sex slave barbie? This makes me sick and the woman promoting it should be punched in the face. What a dumb cunt.
Since when have they been traditional Islamic dress? For thousands of years. Burqa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Burqas are tools of oppression and not traditional Islamic dress. The typical emotional liberal response. You all love oppression when it comes from "other cultures". Oh, but you're proving to everyone how worldy and diplomatic you are right? Its got nothing to do with it being "weird" Its got everything to do with the fact its a tool to oppress woman. Why would anyone (especially a woman) want to promote that? Would you like to see some black barbie dolls with shackles attached to their legs and arms? How is wanting to punch a stupid person in the face for promoting oppression, oppression in itself?
Yeah, and someone would argue Barbies themselves are a sign of oppression, yet you say nothing about that. Gotta have those big eyes, huge tits, and tiny wasteline right? That's not oppressive at all, is it? And of course Ken's gotta have those six pack abs and a brand new red sports car! 'Oppression' is a psychological tool used to oppress women, and all of us, by instilling a social 'standard' or 'norm' into our heads so that we're either less or more willing to accept certain change. A burqa is a foreign tradition you and I will never understand and have no place arguing for or against. Well, we can. But that doesn't mean our opinions are valid.
Actually I agree with you. I posted that very thing on another forum: Liveleak Forums - View Single Post - Burka Barbie????? If its in my society, yes I do. What is it with people like you and your double standards when it comes to equal rights. Why do you have nothing but excuses when it comes to other culture's oppression of woman? Especially when it comes to your neighborhood? Its like you cant reconcile your desire to project a nuanced perspective and a belief that discrimination/oppression is bad.
You act as if it's such a mysterious and complex tradition. It's really quite simple: it's a form of oppression towards women. Simply because we don't belong to such cultures doesn't mean we can't criticize a clearly wrong act.
What isn't politics today? Half the nation almost went on a rampage because Obama did some kneeling last week in another country.
I also hate weed. Good thing I've never tried it though. But I'm still allowed to say that it's good that it's illegal and people who like it should be locked up!! Oh wait..... Grow up people. They're marketing a toy that appears common to what they see. It's the same way they have black barbies for black kids. There's nothing "oppressive" about it. They aren't forcing the little girls to wear burkas, and they probably stock more then the one form of barbie, giving them the knowledge that the burka is not the only clothing they are able to wear. This is FAR from oppression. Oppression is when people are killed and stepped on, and not simply over what traditional garb they wear. And yes, this is traditional. It has been worn for GENERATIONS of women since BIBLICAL TIMES. If that's not traditional, I don't know what would be.
Really don't understand the point of that. I'm not allowed to be against this oppression because I've never tried it? Perhaps I should wear a burka around before passing judgement? Horrible, horrible comparison. I really don't see the similarities between being black and wearing a burka. Your point? Genital mutilation is traditional too, as well as hundreds of other unpleasant acts. 'Tradition' is no defense.
