definatly using the idea from the first link this is what i have to work with......im going to extend the garden btw.....gonna make it 8'x16'
Great links !!! Thanks pointswest ! Nice project you got there Ice. I'm looking to building a greenhouse too but probably gonna go with a post and rafter 3 walls against my shed with PVC suntuff. It's probably gonna be 10' wide X 12 or 16' long... I want to be able to open the roof completly (raising it about a foot on the side with hinges at the top...) to help with humidity control... I saw this type of roof and I tought it was a good idea to put opening windows at the top too... You also have more sun coming from one side. Video is just to give you an idea... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxeEmMwgaMM[/ame] Right now I built a big Worm compost bin to go inside & I'll add big plastic rain water barrels to water my plants... Just an idea like that: I would add maybe 3 wood lumbers running the length of your greenhouse from front to back wall ( 1 at the top and 1 on each side ). I don't know if you ever worked with pvc piping but if you can bend it to form your greenhouse, it will bend too with the plastic skin under big winds (just like a sail boat) !!! Never add a greenhouse but I live up north and each winter, a lot of car tempos fly away... Your 3 lumbers (2x4x16) would add a rigid backbone to your greenhouse and they would be great to hang or attach anything inside, or just to tie your greenhouse pvc pipe skeleton... Doesn,t cost much more... Just my two cents... Be careful cause a greenhouse will attract visitors depending on where you live (city or in the woods) !!! When I see one I'm always wondering what's inside... Good luck with your build ! I can't wait to start mine !
You might want to build a greenhouse in order to protect your plants during the time the weather is extremely cold, or you may simply want to get an early start for the spring.
Want to throw a method of practically free heating out there for you all. Pot belly stoves: chunk a log in come nightfall, and boo-ya. Just make sure you run the ducting outside
I attempted the above method with an old small wood stove and had a very difficult time controlling a consistent heat
Two small electric space heaters and a dehumidifier will keep my 8ft x 16ft greenhouse 8 degrees warmer then my outside temps during the late fall nights
P.ICE If you are still looking I manufacture very reasonably priced greenhouse kit out of steel they are ups shipable. Starting at 10x10' they come with the poly. Check them out at wwwstevesgreenhouses.com
I'm building the exact same thing as the first link I'll post pic when I'm done todat Sent from my XT907 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I personally like this guys design. Only when I do it I will have some modifications. With the space I am using his design is better then those hoop kind. http://rejadventures.blogspot.com/2012/11/october-my-diy-greenhouse.html
