Bud Toping

  1. Alright well most of us know what "toping" of the plant during the veg phase of life does to the plant, for those that don't the plant will but extra energy to repair the damage (usually slows growth) but once the damage is repair the plant for lack of a better term "beefs up"...Lower growth gets more engery fromt the plant (which was normally expended on the main grow tip).

So this is my Idea/Test on my current plant I found 2 identical branches (based on bud devlopment, access to light, and location) So bascially what I did is about 3 weeks into flowering I carfully removed the tip of one (being the about top 1/4 inch of the bud)...I figured since the plant is in flowering it will put the extra energy to repair it's self and then the bud around that area will beef up to...Basically toping the flower. Hope fully that made sense.

Anyway It's been about a Week since I have done it, the control stem (un-toped) seems a little thinner and the toped flower seems to have acutally beefed up. I'm not done with this little experiment yet, I'm gonna wait till it's done and see if there really is a difference or not. I'll post some pics of the difference as I get closer to the end of flowering. If anyone has any information about this please share!

  2. usually its not cool to top during flowering..

I just topped a lil girl that already is showing pre flowers, and it took a good weak and half to finally start growing two tops.

Im not really sure how your deal will work.Im guess growth will be slow for 2 weeks, then gradually speed up.

  3. Seen that but he just said that he thinks it works...never proved anything...i'm going for a proper test to see if it really does work or not.

  4. if it really does work, just cut a bud 2/3 of the way apart, and let it repair like that.

  5. Alright Well for those who want to see the results (so far) they are posted in my journal:

I can't double post pics, but if you go there and scroll down to the 6th post you will see the un-toped bud first and then the topped bellow it...I'm not gonna say if this really work till I harvest and can tell for sure but for now, I'm willing to say it sure as hell doesn't hurt!

  6. i think if u want to make sure if it will work, is grow a mother take 2 clones, and do the test on the 2 clones.. one clone should be flower normal, while the other clone get top while flowering... These way u can keep a journal on both plants and see witch one get more yeild and higher pontecy...

  7. Yeah I don't have the space for that right now other wise yeah I'd do that...but even if I did, I think 2 buds off the same plant is a pretty good test...I mean grow wise they get the exact same conditions (feed from the same plant, and both are about 2 inches away from the light)...With 2 clones there are so many variables to try and keep constant. Anyway...next update is harvest...we'll see then what the results are...
