Bud Smell

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by NiftyGrower, May 3, 2019.

  1. I have a question for more experienced growers.
On my first Grow, some of my buds had a grassy or hay smell once it was dried and cured. The hydro store guy told me that it’s probably because it got too hot in my room or my light was too close.
I’ve read that if you also dry and cure it wrong, the smell goes from dank to stank.
    Anyone experience this?

  2. The hay smell is from bad drying and curing processes buddy. How did you dry and for how long did you cure?

  3. cock on g bad drying and curing the slower the better everytime

  4. I dried for about a week. I honestly forget exactly what I did. Some of the bud turned out fine, some of it smelled grassy. I will review what other people do and be more careful this time. I do believe I dried some of the bud too quickly but the hydro store guy insisted it had nothing to do with this. I disagreed because it smelled great when I harvested

  5. It does have a part to play as of does RH, curing process is also really important buddy. Next time its close to harvest check out the threads on drying and curing, it will help you get it right next time.

  6. 18-20c rh 45% works a treat for me usually takes 10-12 days dry then ready for cure

  7. Yeah, the hanging and drying thingy takes time, and you shouldn't ever rush it and when you do it the temp needs to be at least below 68F, but really 64F is better cause you don't want to lose all those wonderful myrcene terpenes that will evaporate really fast at a temp of 68F. Then the RH should be as low as your target RH. But I have found how much time a plant needs to dry is sort of strain dependent. Like my Bubble Gum will take near 9 days before it can go in the jar to begin that sometimes long winded burping process, but then a OG I keep, consistently takes only 5 days of drying before she ready for the jar.

  8. Drying under a furnace vent in can be done in 2-3 days for those who make edibles, and never smoke.
It smells like herb at first, then hay for awhile, but as drying continues the hay goes away, and herb smell returns.
Maybe you didn't get it dry enough. Flower should lose 75-80% of its weight.
If some of yours didn't smell like hay, maybe it got completely dry, and the hay-smell stuff didn't.
