Bud Rot - 9th week of flower.. Advice requested urgently!

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by stokesydel, Oct 24, 2012.

  1. This is a Coco grow, drip fed. Main problem I have now, is BUD ROT. Noticed it 3 days ago, and I've read up on the problem, cut out the infected parts, and now what to do next is the problem.

I'm nine weeks into flowering, from 12/12.

The colas are big, just flushed them all yesterday, ready to harvest. All the trichs are clear. The leaves are just slightly yellowing.

Should I chop now, and dry the buds quickly after separating, in order to avoid spreading the spores? This is my second grow of G13, and last time it took 10 weeks, in soil.
When checking for rot, I noticed that there are still a lot of 'unhatched pods" - I assume that, if left, these would develop more flowers... but I feel that the harvest as it is would be big enough for me. Looks like about 2 oz a plant, dried.
Question is - would the high be there? Considering that if I chop now, two days after flushing while the plant is mainly green...will I be able to get a decent cure?

Urgency is of the essence here...

If I've done this correctly... there should be a pic of a nice big fat pair of colas..

  2. flushing is a myth and it should be the least of your worries, fyi. curing does everything + more than a flush could ever do, so you are alright there.

its hard to say with budrot. if your trichs are clear, than i believe it would be best to let them go as long as they can.............but if the fungus is threatening to infect a large portion of your crop (that you would have to toss), than you will be forced to harvest early....its better some than nothing, you know?

so, its really your call. its always only the individual grower's call with budrot. from the images i looked at, i couldnt see any budrot at all.....but i have no idea how bad it is, where the spores are (the more moist an area the spores are in, the quicker the fungi reproduce), or anything.

and i know some people will smoke it if its moldy.........would you eat a rotten, mushy tomato (rhetorical question)? well, the same fungi that makes tomatoes mushy & rot is the one that gives cannabis budrot. i personally have a friend whose lung collapsed because of smoking a bud with budrot on it...his lungs werent great to begin with, but thats a different story.

    best of luck

  3. Thanks for that.. pretty much what I expected.. it's my choice, as the man on the spot..!
Checked them today, and removed another small clump..
I have 6 plants in the tent, all the same age, and the mold has affected two of them.. not badly, but from what I understand, the mold can spread rapidly.. and there's a fan in there, presumably helping to spores to travel..

I hear what you say about the flushing.. my main concern is the lack of potency, if I chop too soon..
I'd be perfectly happy if I get out of this grow with good potency, even if it means a reduced weight.
I'm going to keep an eye on them - they should really only have a week or less before the trichs turn milky..

Thanks again.. and hey! thanks again for the help. I'm a learner, and my previous grows have been unsatisfactory (low weights and condition - was growing in soil with Biobizz nutrients..
This one's in coco, and is at lest twice the weight of my previous grows.

    Anyone else care to comment?

    Thanks!

  4. I'd pull them. bud rot can spread FAST. and sometimes from the inside out on the fat colas so you wouldn't even know. it can mess with the smell of your plants too that even a good cure can't fix. The amount of potency you'd lose is not nearly as much of a problem as the amount of BUDS you will lose to rot the longer you go on. The spores are already in your room, spread by fans, clothes, etc. time bomb

  5. Ive chopped one today, and as there seems to be no further evidence.. I'll let the others go, keeping close eye on them.

Seems I'm going to have to get a de-humidifier next...

Looking for advice to sterilise the tent and accessories .. Unable to get hold of anything unusul, so I have Hme Depot type, and a pharmacy. Ws thinking of Hydrogen Peroxide - if that's good, can anyone advise on the dilution?

    Thanks!
