im not sure if this is relevant to anyone but my weed stinks when it's drying and i'm short of space to hang it up so i made this. i think the photos explain it all but basically its a cardboard box with 4 holes near the bottom. a few mesh shelves held in place with plastic rods and a DIY carbon filter with 2 computer fans sucking air through it and blowing it out of the top of the box.

air is drawn in through the holes in the bottom, up through all the bud, through the carbon filter and out the top of the box. it cuts the smell down to nil and takes about a week for a full box to completely dry

  2. I'd put a couple holes up top but with a much smaller fan.

  3. Why? You can't get much smaller than these, they're 3inch fans. It would be no good having a hole at the top because then the air wouldn't run through the shelves and the bud wouldn't dry, most likely just go mouldy

  4. I agree, some sort of pressure gradient is necessary to keep air moving. Putting holes up top might cause the intake to be from those holes instead of the bottom ones.

BTW, NICE BOX. This is the least-ghetto, most-pro, cardboard box I've ever seen. Really nice job, +rep! Most times I see a cardboard moving box with 2 of 3 sides hacked off, but this is heavy duty. And those racks really make it. Did you make those too?

  5. Thanks mate, yeah it's reall sturdy. It was used to pack army uniforms

When I first put the racks in they were a little floppy so I glued some strips of wood on the edges just to firm it up, and put a handle in the middle. Just makes it easier to use.

It does actually work much better than expected. The main reason why I made it was to try and cut the smell down as drying bud in the open made my entire home smell like weed. something I don't want visitors or neighbors smelling. Surprising what such a small amount of carbon can do

  6. That's pretty legit man..where did you buy the mesh shelves at?

  7. thanks dude, the wire mesh, the wooden strips and the wooden handle in the middle were all bought at a local DIY store. It didn't take long to put them together

  8. nice..I want to make something similar but with a duct booster fan and a 4" filter i already have..what does your humidity stay at?

  9. the general humidity in my home varies from 40% to 90% but is usually 50-60%

  10. Nice dry'n box -- real nice -- good job and thanx for sharing.

  11. Fantastic box, great job!

  12. cheers mate, I can't wait to use it again lol, only a couple of weeks to go :)

  13. Do you feel that your fan is too much? I made a similar box, it's 18"x18"x24" as I only do one girl at a time. However all I have is this:

HTG Supply - 6" Inline Duct Fan

I don't really have the time nor am i talented at rigging stuff up. All I have besides that fan is a regular table fan appx 8" tall. Thoughts?

  14. I did a box made out of wood with a diy carbon filter, but it seems that every time I turn on the filter/fan, my humidity drops to 35% and the buds dry in 3 days. This last time, i just dried in the box with no filtration. It stunk, but My buds dried at 55% and took 7 days. Slow dry had a way better flavor/smell. I thought about maybe running the filter for 10 min, then off for 30, on for 10, off for 30. See where that gets me.

  15. Jetski, ya got me goin on this idea, but without a fan. I'll use an enclosed cardbd box with a hole on one side to let air in and a hole on the other side to exhause into my gro tent which in turn will scrub the smell and vent it to the outside of my house. I sort of grow perpetual, so it's perfect. I'll use that collapsable vent tubing to conect the box to the tent, and just hang my chopped branches on strings inside the box. Crossventalation shoud be sufficient to dry one plant at a time. Thanx so much for the initial idea. :smoke: Later

mine is definitely not too much. they are two 3 inch fans one on top of the other. one fan alone struggled to suck air through the filter. I have the fans on 12volts and it works great. if I found it was drying too quick I could lower the voltage

you could use that big fan but you will need a fan speed controller to slow it down considerably

  17. 7 days is a good time. if I did it your way all my bud would go mouldy and would take weeks to dry. my normal room humidity is about 60% so damp bud in a box would go to 90% easily. the air needs constant movement in order to hinder mould growth.

you could try rigging up a carbon filter and fan and have it inside the box. I mean not extracting the air, just circulating it inside

  18. that sounds like a really good idea. may I suggest some kind of vent adjustment on the intake? like a sliding cover so you can adjust the size of the intake hole. so you can fine tune the air flow so you don't dry to quick. I really like that idea

  19. Real good suggestion. Thanx
