Just started giving him a shot, (trying to listen to new music) and he actually is pretty good. I'm a little turned off by the attitude of the people who like him though. Yes, he's fast, but he also uses a shitload of reverb, distortion, delay, and wah. Not in every song or all at once, but its there. On every youtube video theres some argument going on about how he's the best, and that he's better than hendrix or someones else from that era. Thats like comparing apples and oranges really. If you want to say he's better than anyone (which still isn't fair, its a matter of opinion) says he's better than kirk hammet or that guy in slipknot. Bucketheads fast, but IMO David Gilmour can say more with 2 notes than almost anyone else can in an entire solo.
David Gilmour is the king of bends! but yes buckethead is good too.. Once I got past the gimmick I came to find the guy is an amazing composer. He can write some emotion-provoking stuff
excuse me while i flood this thread with bucket appreciation... Thats exactly how I saw it at first too, a gimmick. The funny thing is he doesn't need it. He also does more than just high gain shred. He splits his neck humbucker and does some jazzier/bluesier runs. And apparently his real name is brian carrol and he has a face.
I saw Buckethead in concert! It was awesome. He just brought out an IPOD for backbeat and then jammed for 90 minutes and walked off the stage.

One of the greatest musicians/composers of all time, out of any genre. The amount of work he has put out under his name as well as his other bands and side projects is absolutely mind blowing.
One of my favorite guitarists of all-time. Buckethead is so crazy talented. He can go from shredding some mind-blowingly difficult riffs, to a soulful melody in the same song. There's been few musicians as original and creative in music, let alone the progressive genre, as he has.
I do personally think he is either the best or among the best of guitarists. He has some incredible skill and virtuoso is really the best word to describe him. Soothsayer is such a good song. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeBUvzKERgE[/ame] this might be my favorite.. maybe because it kicked my ass on GH2 for the longest time on expert and once I got it down and got good at the song it was a huge feeling of accomplishment.. Or it could be the fact that the solos are that damn good
