Bubble Bucket Question

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by JimiGrape, Jan 14, 2010.

  1. I'm used to ebb & flow/SOG, but I'm considering doing bubble buckets. However, I can't wrap my mind around what I would do for the veg stage. I'm thinking one of the GH Areoponic systems for the veg station.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

  2. When I use bubble buckets I simply just run a pump, and a some spaghetti line up to my rockwool cubes and set it with a time to run for 15 mins every 2 hours. Takes about a week or two from seed for the roots to pop through the netpot and from there you just let the bubbles do all the work. That's assuming you use the big ass netpots. Basically until the roots hit the water you just have a top-feed hydro setup.

Once the roots have grown through the netpot you take the pump out (or you can leave it in, but I generally only topfeed about 3 times a day if I leave it in). From that point on, you just let the bubbles do there thing. I noticed that once my roots have reached the bottom of the net pot, but aren't quite reaching the soup yet, if I lower the soup to about 2-3 inches below the roots and make sure the bubbles are hitting the roots, the roots will explode. I mean they will grow inches daily, and your top growth will flourish. No joke, when this happens you will see daily growth that will astound you. I'm talking inches, daily, new leaf sets and a new node every day is not out of the question.

I no longer use bubble buckets because my last two grows had root rot. The first one was with all brand new equipment, and the second time the only thing I reused I put in a bleach/water mixture and let it sterilize for a while. Both times it came back in late veg and ended up taking the plant with it. I've just been having some incredibly shit luck lately with my grows, maybe it's a sign... who knows. /rant

  3. You can veg in the bubble buckets. If you're trying to get a cycle goin you can build a system out of a rubbermaid container so you can veg in that and flower in single buckets

  4. I planned to use a clone machine for (3 weeks) and the buckets for the bloom stage. I'm just trying to figure out what to do during the veg stage (week 4-8).

Basically I'm looking to adapt my SOG system/timeline, but I want to replace the ebb and flow system and grow monsters in 5 gallon buckets.

I'm leary about using rockwool with the bubble buckets. Seems like the rockwool would retain too much water and could cause problems (ie root rot) - perhaps STG would work better. I think areo or bubble would provide the fastest growth in the veg stage.

How does Hydroton work in ebb and flow systems? Any experiences with STG?

    Thanks,
