Brown Pistils?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by PhishPhood, Oct 29, 2010.

  1. Im about 1 month into flowering and my pistils are starting to turn brown/reddish already, but I dont really have any buds (tons of pistils but no buds).

    What is causing this?

  2. Do you have any pictures?

  3. Cant get any up today. Maybe tomorrow.

ALl i have is a cell phone camera

  4. Doesn't sound too unusual to me. A few red hairs @ 4 weeks for some strains would be perfectly normal. What strain is it anyway?

    Good luck.

  5. Its just bagseed since its my first grow.

The only thing concerning me is that I dont really have any buds to speak of. There are alot of pistils, but nothing really forming into buds yet.

I only have until Nov 20 to continue this grow so about 3-4 more weeks..

Is this gonna be enough time, should I see alot of growth in these weeks ahead?

  6. have you been touching them? pistils will brown if bruised.

  7. I am using LST method, so they get moved around a bit while tying branches and moving it around.

Almost every growth that is flowering is turning brown though, there is no way I have touched them all.

Last week I trimmed all the leaves except what is around the bud sites though so that my plant only focuses its energy to the buds. Could this be part of it?

  8. You did what? You can't remove all of the fan leaves while it is flowering. It needs those to photosynthesize and produce energy for the whole plant.

Post some pics we need to see what is going on here.

    Good luck.

  9. Also, best to stop any new LST once you throw it into flowering. There really is no purpose at that point.

    Good luck.

  10. Ok, ALL was a bit extreme.. I havent trimmed them all.

I have had to continue LST through flowering becuase the plant is still growing alot and im using a small grow box.

    Pics to come

  11. Cool. :)

  12. First one is a flower site and second is the whole plant.

It just seems like the flower growth is very small for them to already be brown/reddish

  13. What is the temp in your grow area?

  14. I dont have a temperature in there. It isn't too high, When i open the box and put my hand in it feels cool. I wouldnt guess more than low to mid 70s at the most

  15. I thought you were growing weed on your desk.

Thats the right temperature. Your stems look strong, and you do have buds, just not very fat.

Tiny pot may be stunting growth at this point.

  16. It might be the pot. I can see roots all along the bottom and they're pretty packed in there... Is it worth changing containers for the last month or so of growth?

  17. That could be part of it, if you smother the roots, the plant is kind of smothered too, I dont know how true it is, but I've heard that a plant will only grow above ground as big as it can get under, meaning root ball size dictates plant size. My other point is, what kind of light are you using, and what wattage is it? your buds are there but if you were expecting larger and harder buds, maybe your lights are under powered.

  18. Ive got 3 26w CFL on just the one plant

  19. That is likely the cause of your buds being smaller than they should, your running roughly a bulb short, you need between 100 to 150 for the first plant(watts, actual not equivalent) and about 50 to 100 for each plant after the first, I stick to 100 a plant, but it NEVER hurts to have more than that, plus cfl never gets the buds as dense as HID, I've heard the even out doors wont get them as rock hard as HID's, they get hard in the sun, harder than cfl, but still a smidgen fluffier than with HID. toss one more of your 26 watters in there and you should be fine, and notice quicker/thicker budding once the plant gets enough light.
