Brown Mucus

  1. Hello everyone, was looking for some feedback or wondering if anyone else has ever had a similar experience. I recently turned 19 years old and have been in generally good health my whole life. This past winter, around February, i had a bout of bronchitis that required me to quit smoking entirely for about 3 weeks to a month. Prior to this, i had been smoking at least 4-5 times a day, usually joints or splits, with minimal tobacco in them, along with the occasional cigarette when i was drunk or stressed. After diligently quitting smoking for that time, i got better and figured it was safe to smoke again. the first night i started smoking again i noticed that i coughed up a gross amount of brown shit. I didnt think much of it and continued to smoke. Began to smoke again at my regular rate, and the brown stuff continued. It was not completely brown however, rather clear phlegm with small amounts of brown spots/specks. Around the beginning of september i figured that i had enough. I haven't smoked for almost two months yet the small amounts of brown specks continued. Im hesitant to go to the doctor because I'm scared its something serious, although i feel like at this point my symptoms would have gotten way worse, or other symptoms like chest pain would have come along as well. However there have been no other symptoms. Also, one worry i have is that it is blood, but i wonder why would it be automatically brown, which typically indicates old blood, as i have never coughed up fresh red blood. idk what the fuck is wrong with me, i want to start smoking again because i miss the herb so dearly. any suggestions/ experiences are greatly appreciated!!!!

  2. also, just to add, it does sometimes come from my sinuses, the same brown stuff i cough up. so I'm not sure where this shit is originating, i just know its annoying as fuck. it typically presents itself after i eat a meal.

  3. another point, i never actually have a cough. since my bronchitis in feb, i have not had periods where i had a bad cough. almost never have to cough. another reason I'm hopeful its no big deal, just some resin or tar or something. i always just force this shit out by coughing, not because i have to cough. i figure thats better than just not coughing at all and letting it sit.

  4. When I completely laid off of smoking cigs for a while, I had a lot of mucus for a few months--it wasn't brown though, and maybe yours is just brown because you have a much higher concentration of the bullshit from cigs/weed in your body. Could be blood though, so you definitely should get it checked out in case--better safe than sorry.

I think the fact that you're not coughing supports the idea that it's not serious, though

  5. When I smoked blunts everyday I used to have the same thing happen everyday. I stopped smoking blunts for about a week or 2 and it went away so I realized thats what was causing it because I dont smoke cigs.

  6. brown mucus = blood+mucus

  7. The internet is telling me it is normal to cough up brown phlegm after quitting tobacco.

The weed is likely helping it happen faster since weed is a bronchial dilator and opens up the bronchial passages, whereas tobacco is a bronchial restrictor and tightens them.

Try switching to calling for a while if possible. Less irritation for your lungs while they heal from that tobacco. And stop smoking tobacco forever.

  8. Yeah dude, it is normal. It is all the dried blood from the lacerations left over from years of smoking that is just not being *scrubbed* out.

Inside your lungs, you have small pod-like air sacks called Alveoli. Their job is to scrub your lungs clean and keep your air sacks from blocking up with tar, blood, and other nasty things.

When people smoke, the hot carcinogenic smoke destroy the Alveoli and they shrivel up and die. That is why when you smoke, you didn't hack up that nasty mucus shit....all your Alveoli were dead. Instead, all that nasty gunk just built up over the years.

When you quit smoking, the Alveoli started growing back and picked up right where they left off....scrub-a-dub-dub.

You hacking up that nasty shit now is a clear sign that your lungs have functioning Alveoli and that they are hard at work, cleaning up all that tar and crud built up in your lungs from years of abuse.

This is a good thing and it should stop in about 2-4 weeks.

I was a cigarette smoker for 9 years before I quit 2 years ago. So I have first hand experience.

Good job quitting tobacco and I hope I helped clarify a few things,

  9. i used to have brownish-yellowish mucus every morning in my throat every morning when i woke up. wasn't even from consistent toking either. then someone told me i should get sinus clearing drops. i think it was the cause of a sinus infection i'd have for months and sinus clearing drops helped a ton :)

I smoke cigs and bs and I cough up brown occasionally. I just got used to it now it went away. I have a constant cough tho and docs won't help me out any...
