Broken diffuser downstem in bong

  1. Hey GC,

I've got an Ehle 5mm bong and my diffuser downstem snapped off because I foolishly laid the bong on the ground and tripped over it later. Bong is alright but the diffuser stem is stuck inside of the glass-on-glass connection. I can't get a grip on it because none of the stem is sticking out. It broke halfway inside of the glass-on-glass connection...Anyone got ideas on how to get it out? I've tried pliers but its glass on glass and its holding on pretty tightly.

Anyone have any ideas? I need some kind of way to pull it out the only way I can think of is to try to push it out from inside the bong using a clothes hanger with a loop on the end or something of that nature.

  2. Super hot water first, boiling even if its dirty and sticky. Then stick some needle nose pliers, with the jaws closed into it, open the jaws to the sides w/ as little pressure as u can but still get traction and spin it out. Works better if the jaws have tape on them or something, they grip better then.

  3. Ahhh, yeah I didn't think about tape. I've been trying to figure out what to use to create friction but tape will do perfectly. I think electrical will probably work. Off to try it so I'll let you know. Thanks!

  4. The downstem was stuck pretty hard, pliers with tape didn't work.

I ended up just taking a metal clothes hanger and making a small loop on the bottom of the hanger and I wrapped the loop in tape then I stuck the clothes hanger into the bong through the top and just situated it underneat the downstem and pulled and it shoved the downstem back through the opening in the bong so it came out! It actually took a bit of force but it came out in the end.

hopefully this can help others it was a much easier and less messy method and didn't risk breaking the bong by using the pliers.

Now I gotta clean the bong to make sure there aren't any glass shards in it :( but I'm happy to have ti back :)

  5. Hi,

Glad it worked out for you.

My first thought was to grab a carrot and whitle it down untill it fit your broken stem nicely, then try to pull it out. I've done this with a broken light bulb and it worked.

Now you get to shop for a cool new stem:smoke:

  6. hahaha the same thing happened to my bong the other day and i ended up doing the same exact thing ;)

  7. hello old thread

for anyone with the same problem

freezing the entire thing and hitting the outside part of the joint with a torch - so the inside contracts and the outside expands- if that hanger thing doesn't work on its own try it with that
