was scanning wally world for new grow supplies when i came across some metal halide brinks 150 and 100 watt replacement bulbs for one of their security lights. the 100 watt is 3000k and the 150 is 5000k. it got me thinking. i would assume there is a ballast in the light itself and you would need the actual security light also. correct? i doubt you could screw it into a regular light socket and it produce what its supposed to. although it does have the right sized end. BUT....i dont need a huge light for what im aiming for. a 100 watt light would work great. so would it be feasable?
many small hps lighting systems are great ....but that said too, you will be spending a lot of time managing the heat, how much time have you got???? should you pursue this get the bulb at 5000 kelvin for equal amounts of blue and red light
i was wrong actually, its 5900 kelvin. 175 watt and 7700 lumens. im not sure how much the fixture is but im going to look. and i dont see there being too much heat to handle. if i do this, i plan on doing some wiring and taking the fixture out of its shell and wiring it into a vented hood i made out of an old batwing hood. The ONLY way ill be doing this is if i can get 2 of them for under the price i can get a 400 watt hps and mh.
