Brief lighting @5 mins per hour to prevent flowering?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by buds4buds, Aug 25, 2015.

  1. Ed rosenthal says u don't need constant supplemental light in a greenhouse to prevent flowering, rather just short periods of light every hour.
Is this true? And will this practice result in herms?
My neighbors aren't too thrilled about the giant "nite lite" in the backyard!
What is necessary and what is overkill? Can I use some type of bulb that broadcasts only the light I need and not a "bright white" such as a colored bulb instead?

70-35 lumen from home depot.. They are enough to hold the plants in veg without so much backscatter they bother the flowering plants just 10 feet away.. They'll hold up to a tray of nine 3 foot tall plants in veg.. They don't work in a shortest day months of Dec and Jan.. Not enough charge time and they don't burn all night on a short charge..
To sum up you need something over 5 lumen per sq foot to hold a plant in veg.. That's about 3 times full moon near as I can figure it..
Far more neighbor friendly then a huge light coming on for 5 min every hour.. Stealthy too..
