breeding with autoflowering strains

  1. have any of you tried using a comercially available autoflowering strain for breeding? it seems that Lowryder #2 is one of the most commonly used by the pros. i can only assume that most of the seeds available to purchase are a cross of a male autoflower such as the Lowryder #2, and a non-auto cloned female from a proven quality strain. or maybe the Lowryder provides the female at times and is mated with a proven male such as Subcool's Spacedude. it would seem that in the early days of autos, all that was ever listed as the auto contributing parent plant, was "ruderalis". nowadays we see more and more that a cross will list a known auto strain (such as Lowryder) as one of the parents.

it would be interesting to play around with autos with the goal of making our own auto seeds. for several reasons. for starters, autos cant be kept perpetually as clones. second, with our own seedstock, we wouldnt have to rely on ordering seeds every time we want autos. lastly, we could attempt to have our own tailor made auto strains. we could breed autos to long season sativas or to the fastest of non-auto strains. we could also attempt to create a strain the overcomes the biggest drawback that currently exists in autos... poor yields/short plants.

autos are cool but they dont reward the grower very well. what have you guys found to be the best yielding autos? Iranian Autoflower is said to be a solid yield. anyone tried it, and whats the best place to get ahold of the beans?

  2. what would be the method to lock down autoflowering after the first cross is made?

  3. punnet squares.
