Brand new growers seeking advice on our system...

  1. Hello to all from Maryland :hello:

Well this upcoming summer, me and my two friends plan on growing...
We plan on having an arrangement of about 5-8 plants. It is our very first grow, so it should be pretty exciting. A friend of ours grew outdoors last year and we thought we would give it a shot as well. I've tried it, but only my plants were small and it was time for me to move back to college. So i just gave them away to some close friends of mine. But I'll go on to explain our whole situation. We have alot of questions about growing and thought that GC would hold the answers and have many great suggestions for us to follow.

    So here it goes:

    How: Outdoors

Getting Started: Well we plan on growing from seeds. I germinated a bunch of seeds before and had small plants growing before. However, time came around to move back up to college, so I ended up giving the plants to some of my friends. So I will be able to get all the seeds started.

Area: We live by the woods so it is fairly close and accessible to us. The area is secluded and gets sunlight during a majority of the day. There is vegetation and trees around so it's not like they will pop out and look out of the ordinary.

Climate: During this time, the temperature is in the 80's and it gets fairly humid outside. However, the tall trees in the area will provide a little bit of shade some point in the day for the plants.

In What: We plan on growing in pots opposed to growing in the ground. We have small ones to get things started and hefty ones to support them once they are grown.

Soil: Browsing around GC, I hear alot of specifics to the kinds of soils to use when growing. However, being that I'm not a grower, I've been confused on the specifics that I'm going to need. Well in my yard is a garden, which is composed of store bought top soil, potting soil, and a mixture of compost. So this soil has done well growing plants and is rich in nutrients already. Would this be alright to use or what do you suggest? We have a Wal-Mart and a Wentworth in our area with a big selection of soils. Is there like a particular name brand or something that would be Easy to look for on a store shelf and fulfill our purpose?

Watering: Well with my little plants that I've had growing...I would just water them about everyday and make sure the soil is moist. They seemed to have been in good health and maintained that health when I had them. So I never changed it. Is there a specific system or times you guys use to water your plants? Also how much water do you use on a plant when you water?

pH: From a guide I read on here, it appeared that plants like a pH of around 6.0 - 6.5. I know you can get a tester in order to test the pH...But I'm not quit sure how you go about maintaing or changing a pH...Is there some kind of additive that you add to change it the way in which you need? Or how do you go about doing that?

Training: We have been looking around GC and this is the way we plan on training as we grow...thought it was a good process used by Dierwolf and it seemed pretty straight forward and easy.

Animals: A friend of ours has had deer mess with his crop earlier this year. I don't think this will really be a problem in the spot we have chosen, but better safe than sorry. So I was wondering if there was possibly any methods that could maybe unattract deer to the area we plan on growing in?

Thats about all the specifics I could remember to add. If there is any other information that you is important, I'll add it. But anyone feel free to put down any input or suggestions to our method. Be honest too lol, if it sounds like it won't work than give us your opinion...Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

  2. if u are from MD one of the hardest things is gonna be watering me and my friend tried a grow over the summer but our spot wouldnt retain water very well so we ended up going like once a day but after like a month of that we gave up. we also had to hike to the spot so yeah but good luck

  3. our spots gonna be in a spot that isnt really hell to get to...but yeah from my start of last season i had to water like every other day. I don't mind doing that though lol itll be worth it in the end....
