Bowl Maintenance

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by Scrambles, Apr 17, 2010.

  1. My pipe has been used a metric shitload since I've last cleaned it in September. The resin is just caked on the piece. I'm debating whether to clean my Budson Burner or not.

Any wise masters have some protips on this?

  2. Iso Alcohol, salt, and hot water.

  3. Yep, you're going to want to get some iso alcohol. You can usually find 93% at most stores at it does the job nicely along with some salt and patience.

  4. Like this guys said. Salt and ISO. And even Q-Tips dipped in ISO work really good to get the stuff the salt wont take off.

And Clean pieces are so much nicer.

  5. go to the dollar store and spend 5 bucks on hand sanitizer (99% Alcohol) some Q tips and a miny screwdriver set to scrap the resin then smoke it

  6. Since September?? How do you even use that anymore...It would be completely clogged....I say don't waste your time just get a new piece.

  7. well first scrape the fuck out of it with like a bent up paper clip and a needle or some shit like that, and if you dont wanna use alcohol just boil it, then run the water through coffee filters to get more rez to smoke. getting high for free rocks

  8. Get a ziploc bag, fill it 1/3 up with ISO, add salt, add piece, close bag, shake around like a madman.

  9. DO NOT boil your piece, you will weaken the glass and eventually it will break.

    Just use ISO/Salt

  10. As far as boiling goes, I find that as long as you aren't forcing any extreme temperature change on the glass you are usually alright. Granted this could weaken it in the long run I only do this with my lower end bubs/pipes and have yet to have one break on me. Just put it in the water before applying heat and don't douse it in cold water when you're all done.

  11. ISO + Salt, put it in a bag and shake the hell out of it. I cleaned my chillum that way today. Given, it's only been like 2 months since I got it, but the resin was so caked the glass was no longer see through and the bowl was clogging. I had to let it sit in the solution for about 30 minutes, then shake, then pour it in the toilet and rinse. Qtips did the rest. Now it looks brand new except for 2 or 3 really small places inside and smokes like a champ again.

  12. Tell me how room temperature directly to 212+ degrees is not an extreme temperature change?

  13. clean the pipe, with iso alcohol. and it should be fine...

  14. At the risk of getting flamed, I use boiling water in a sense. I find a microwave safe container, put 50/50 mouth wash and water. Zap for 30 seconds, check it, zap for 15. Most of the resin (I don't save mine) is along the top edge of the water.

You don't want to put it in and walk away. And I don't know if it'd have an effect, but you probably don't want to do this for sure if you piece has any bubbles in the glass.

I figure if you follow common sense, you should be fine. Don't use cold water, I start my 50/50 mix with the hottest tap water I can get (120 degrees last time I checked the hot water temp). Be watchful of it boiling over. Don't pull it out of the hot water and rinse it off with cool... I just let mine sit in the mixture until it's all cool.

Iso doesn't come by my way very often and I have no ride to get any. When I am out, I forget to get it, so I use this. Use Iso and salt though if you have everything available.

  15. Can you use a different kind of alcohol such as hydrogen peroxide without damaging the piece at all? I'm guessing ISO just works better

  16. Well Hydrogen Peroxide is not alcohol. The reason ISO is used is because it completely evaporates with no residue. I'm not so sure about hydrogen peroxide. I don't think it will damage the piece but if it leaves a residue it could be toxic. Make sure to rinse well.

  17. Now that you say that I may just use water til I get some ISO thanks man:wave:

Huh? Hydrogen peroxide is not a different kind of alcohol.

ISO and salt is the best way to clean your glass...........period.
