Since I'm gonna be alone tonight for din din, I decided it's time to actually cook something instead of fast food or frozen food. So I went to the store and got a New York strip + a fatass potato. Now I have some questions: 1) When should I add the seasoning to my steak/how long to keep it out? I have some Montreal Steak seasoning. 2) How should I cook it on a frying pan? I eat my steak medium well, I don't want to end up burning the shit out of it. 3) Baked potato: how do I make it? I probably sound stupid, but I haven't cooked a meal for a couple years, and those were just spaghetti, rice, and hamburger helper.

I like to marinate my steaks for a few hours in the fridge. Use a vinaigrette dressing if you have it, as well as your seasoning. Good luck trying to pan-fry it, you might end up burning the outside before cooking the inside if you don't use a low enough setting. As for the potato, I say dice it up and boil it if you're not sure how to cook it. Then drain, butter and season. As far as that goes, you can't really over-boil taters too much.
Yeah, the pan frying is what will get me. Should I cook on a medium-low setting? Might have to settle with medium if it fries too fast.
settle for medium if its too fast? You said you like it medium well which is more cooked than medium haha. It will quickly make it medium well
BBQ that steak and the Potato Boil cut it into 1 inch cubes approx. and boil for 20 mins intil a fork passes throught them easily with out getting stuck as in a uncooked one. Can you use the oven broiler? 7mins on each side Med Rare
Well I don't wanna burn the shit out of it and leave it medium. Or worse: blue (Don't ask, I can probably make it happen on accident) Unfortunately, I don't own a grill. There's a George Foreman stashed somewhere but I'm not gonna go look for it. I think I'll jump on the diced potato idea
lol it would be pretty hard to cook it blue if you are worried about it cooking too fast..... blue is like... 15 seconds on each side seared in safflower oil lol thats how i eat my motha fucking meat, as rare as i can get it lol
Um could sear the steak in a skillet then put in oven on low until it's cooked I prefer my steak Med rare
Alright, done and eaten. I kinda fucked up on the potatoes and they ended up mashed with the skin, not my favorite, but they were edible. But the steak, oh man I have to say it was pretty bangin'. Ended up medium well, just how I wanted it. Wasn't sure if it was done or not so I ended up taking it off the pan for a couple minutes then threw it back on. It was still really good. Thank you guys for helping me out, first time cooking a steak & potatoes and it's all thanks to y'all
