Boss wants to give me free house, but...

  1. So here's the story, I'm at work today fixing a truck and shit then my boss calls a company meeting. Its only me, the boss, and 2 other mechanics. So after we talk for 10 minutes or so about what the schedule is for today, he asks me to stay in the office. So he knows I've been looking for a house, and wanted to offer me one. The shop, his house, and his spare house are all within 40 yards of each other, same plot of land basically. In reality its about a 15 second walk to get to any one of these building to any other. So he tells me that the girl living in the spare house is moving out, and if I want I could have that house and all I'd have to pay is my own bills. (Electricity, TV, internet, ect.) Basically said he'd give me a raise and just take the raise money for the houses rent. So what's the problem? He does not like weed. I can't grow weed. I will NEVER be able to leave work. I mean he lets us out at like 2-3 in the afternoon at least once or twice a week, but I'd still be so close to work, it'd feel like I never left. Plus I don't know how I'd go about smoking, I mean I enjoy being outside to smoke but also I can't have the whole house smelling like bud. So blades what do you guys think? I mean he's cool as fuck besides the "no-weed" thing. He's got hhis whole family living at his house and they're pretty cool, but its still kind of weird. Thoughts? Opinions?

    TL;DR
No rent, only my bills for house 20 yards from bosses house. He hates weed.

  2. Get a vaporizer for the weed concern. :p

  3. Maybe live there for 6 months to a year? Just quit smoking for a bit, perhaps?

I mean having a free place to stay is pretty neat. Plus, I'm sure his family will invite you over for free meals and such. It only means more savings for you. Unless you're smoking for health reasons, you can stop or cut usage for a 6 months to a year. It won't kill you. Besides, imagine how great it will be once you start up smoking again with that long of a T-Break.

  4. Eat your weed. Make a pro and con list

  5. It's a fucking good deal but idk about the whole closeness thing. When I leave work I don't want to see my boss until my shift starts again, it'd be like living with him or some shit. Idk if it'd be too good a deal to pass up though.

    You guys replied quick lol.

Well I smoke for 2 reasons.
    1. I enjoy being high
    2. I am a cancer survivor and honestly believes it helps fight cancer.

I mean yeah you can't beat a free house right? And yeah he takes us out to lunch everyday already and has invited me a few times to dinner. Maybe a vape would be good? I just feel like I am going to lose my feeling of freedom.

  7. Depends on your money situation, you could just suck it up for a couple months or a year and save a lot of money and then find a new place. Plus you could also just mostly vape in the house.

  8. Stay there as long as you can stand it and save as much as you can, then BUY your own house.....You could also tell him it makes you uncomfortable being so close to work and see what he says....

    This.

I want to be able to leave work. If I'm never more than 50 yards from the shop ill always feel like I'm on call or something.

  10. Fuck no you dont want to live that close to the job

  11. Or edibles. Edibles are fun.

  12. If you already have concerns... Dont do it.

    Personally i would do it.

  13. Dude. I doubt he's going to constantly call you in to work after he lets you leave. It just sounds like he appreciates you and wants to help you out. You'll still have time to smoke and do what you want. Personally I think the pro's outweigh the con's. All of your reasons are personal preferences that you can just suck it up and get over.

Maybe you're right man. Its definately a good financial choice. The main problem I really have is that growing is my passion. Sounds ridiculous but I really wanna grow medicinal marijuana if its passes in my state next year. (Bills going up Feb 13 I think) I can tell he does appreciate me working here, we get along great and all, but we do run 24/7 road service as well actually...but whether I'm here or at another house, ill be doing that regardless.

  15. You could try honestly talking to him about weed. You never know. Otherwise I say vape your head off, think about a very stealth grow or don't grow for a year or so. If you do move in, do what people said and save every penny you can. T adds up fast providing there aren't any spending emergencies you have to deal with.

I was thinking a super stealth.... well probably just a grow tent in the closet haha.

    Boss's quotes about weed

"He ruined his mind smokin pot and dope"
"Those dopers are making a killing growing pot"

There's more but I can't really remember, trust me he is not a fan of the marijuana community. Maybe just vape and make edibles with the after vaped weed. I dunno, it is a ridiculous situation though.

  17. Man this is a classic scenario of when you should not let bud control your choices.
You are getting offered a house, with limited bills to pay and walking distance to work.
To me that sounds like a great oppurtunity and to not take it because of weed would be dumb.

Don't you have a car? You couldn't just leave at night and smoke at a friends house or something. You can literally smoke anywhere.

  18. Well, heres the thing.

    1. Hes your boss.
    2. Hes doing you a HUGE favor.

I mean, maybe its 'just a job' and its 'just your boss', but it sounds like you've got something potentially good going on here. Do you really want to risk that by taking him up on the offer and then having it fall apart (or worse) because you couldnt help yourself but to grow bud in his house, against his wishes?

He sounds like a pretty chill and reasonable man, just isnt educated on cannabis. Maybe you can just have a conversation with him about it. See if hes open to some kind of compromise. Explain your feelings on it and why you smoke (cancer) and see where, exactly, his concerns are.

Is he more worried about the smell in the house? Easy, see if he'd be okay with a vaporizer or you just smoking outside (out of sight of his children).
Is he more worried about 'strangers' coming around doing 'drug deals' and shit? Then bring up the possibility of him allowing you to do a one or two plant grow to supply yourself with what you need so that there will be no need for 'strangers' to be hanging around his property.

    Just some thoughts.

  19. How much is the raise do you know?

I don't know anyone here dude. Just moved here at the end of September and got this job and started working 3 days after I got here.

You are definately right about letting weed control my choices though man and that's a good point. I do have my car so I could go blunt cruise or whatever but that's such a fuckin hassle still. I'd pretty much have to eliminate the smell of weed altogether. Car included.
