It's a UK thing; I guess the US have only just got him.

I'm not sure anyone outside the UK would really 'get' Ali G, since we are the sole owners of the chav culture.

Ali G In Da House was dogshit, wasn't it? I really think he retired him just in time; he was running the very real risk of becoming old. The whole 'chav' thing is quite passe, now, I feel.

 

I still like the character, though. The movie was just weak.

Who else is going to interview bigwig politicians and ask stupid questions only to render their guests even more ignorant?

 

Yeah, the TV show was far superior. I remember seeing him way back on the !! O'Clock Show, on a fox hunt.....Very funny, and very revealing; not one of those so-called 'educated' people had the vaguest idea they were being wound up.

 

oh man, Borat is so funny. I can't wait for the movie, but I hope it's better then the Ali G movie. (the show was way better)

 

Holy shit. Ali G rules. In my many circles of friends, i'm the only one who knows about Ali G... sad.

I saw it earlier today. Very funny, although it didnt live up to its hype. Critics were calling it the funniest movie of the year, if not the decade. I heard people comparing Sacha Baron Cohen to Peter Sellers, so I was anticipating a classic.

I would give it a 7.5/10. It had some great parts but overall did not turn out to the unforgettable comedy I was expecting. I would say that his Borat clips on Da Ali G Show were better than the film, which is a little disappointing.

It was also announced that they are preparing to film a Bruno movie. For those of you that dont know, Bruno is an overwhelmingly gay Austrian fashion fanatic, and also one of the three characters from Da Ali G Show that SBC plays. First Ali G got his movie (it wasn't that great), then Borat got his, now Brunos getting his shot. I think he was the least funny out of the three, but great nonetheless.

i agree with high as hell, it was funny as hell, but it didn't live up to the hype. i would have enjoyed it more if it didn't have so much hype... has anyone seen the boss office numbers? 26,000,000 in it's first weekend and only 800 theaters? sheeeeeeeeeeeiiit.

Many thought the film's sometimes painfully offensive comedy (which mostly pokes fun at American ignorance) would be a tough sell for mainstream audiences, but with showings selling out virtually the entire weekend it's clear that more than just Ali G fans and their friends came out in support this weekend. While the audience skewed heavily toward the under-25 crowd, a 10% increase in ticket sales from $9.2 million on Friday to $10.1 million on Saturday indicates strong word of mouth is propelling the film to bigger heights. Fox had planned on launching the film nationwide next weekend, hoping word of mouth would help build momentum during its run. "Dead Man's Chest" averaged $32,817 in 4,133 theaters for a record $135.6 million, while "Spider-Man" ranks second with a $31,769 average in 3,615 theaters and a $114.8 million debut. Internationally, "Borat" opened across Europe with a strong $17 million, topping the box office in both the U.K. and Germany. "
