Bong joint sizes

  1. Hi guys, I'm designing a custom glass precooler consisting of a diffuser and condenser and I want to get a better understanding of the size of joints. For example, is a 14.5mm joint the size of the outer diameter or inner diameter? They also form a cone shape so I'm assuming this is the size of the larger end?

Is there a place to read more info on standard joint sizes? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  2. inner of the female, outer of male. on the larger end.

it's based on real scientific glass sizes so look up ground glass joints.

  3. So a 14/23 joint would only be 14mm rather than 14.5? Would a 19/26 joint (male) work in conjunction with a 18.8mm bong joint (female)?

  4. ok, when displayed as 19/23 or something that refers to the inside of the female ground glass fitting/the outside of the stem. for males, i think the sizing is just displayed as 19mm (and yes 18.8 "18" is the same as 19), or whatever size it is.

like a keck click sized at 19mm/22mm means the 19mm clip on top fits just above the female fitting on the male's tube to keep it from backing out, then the 22mm will fit around the female's outside just under the top lip.

did i help makes sense of it at all? it's difficult for me to explain. just make sure to use standard fittings that most keck clips covered and such to KISS (keep it simple stupid)
