Bong Help

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Blowing on Sour, Sep 28, 2012.

  1. I have been smoking on and off since i was 14. with pretty big gaps but recently i have started smoking almost daily. So i've decided to buy a bong.

I have a local head shop that sells pretty nice looking bongs (ash catcher, ice holder, Perc) for only $80-100, but on the internet you see the same pieces costing a couple hundred. my question is whats the difference besides one having a label?

    There is no difference.

  3. Better quality thicker glass, hand-blown by experienced companies in most cases. Some are better than others and its nice to own a nice piece.

I have a nice 7mm RooR and its had a few accidents and still been fine. Some of my friends have cheap bongs though and some of them are not bad at all, even better if you use good dank :smoke:

  4. The expensive ones you see on the internet are usually hand made by well known artists , and you can be 100% sure that it won't have any defects, will work properly etc.

Pieces you find in your head shop for around $100 can still be nice pieces, but are usually much more prone to weak points in the glass and little imperfections that can affect the usability.

For the casual stoner, any decent glass from a headshop is plenty good enough, but if you consider yourself a connoisseur of the herb, high end glass is deffinitely where its at.

  5. Speaking from experience, I bought a good size bong 14 percs ice catcher ash catcher from a head shop in Atlantic City for $140 i think, It gets the job done but i broke that shit into so many pieces by accident with little contact

Next i went to a local headshop dropped 80 - 100$ on an HVY mini bong, and its so much better, the glass is way better quality so i dont have to worry about accidentally bumping it into something and it shattering

Id go with a HVY mini if they sell those at your shop

  6. you pay for what you get with glass. the thicker the better. 9mm ftw

  7. 7mm is just fine, i have a 7mm straight tube that has been through hell and back lul. it has seen many down stems and bowls and shit but the bong itself is still perfectly fine and is several years old

  8. The difference is that it's actually blown by a skilled blower, meaning no imperfections, better quality percs, sturdier, and overall a better hit.

If you're buying something with no percs, you may as well just buy a cheap one. But once you start involving trees, showerheads, domes, etc. you can really notice the difference between a quality piece and a cheap one.

@The people talking about glass thickness:

Most high end blowers only blow 5mm pieces, occasionally 7mm. A high quality 5mm piece is pretty sturdy on it's own, don't go out and make 7mm a priority because most of the best quality glass is 5mm.

  9. most of the time the difference is the skill of the glass blower like others said. Pretty much all high end American glass is made with borosilicate glass which is way stronger then glass that was made in china (lower quality starting material). The borosilicate glass is harder and has a wider temperature ranger it can be work in, which means cleaner welds and more exact saw cuts for percs. The best analogy I have heard is that the high end glass is like getting an original artwork while the china glass is like getting a print of that. They both serve a purpose but one is clearly better quality than the other
