Bomb-sniffing, uhm, mice...

  1. Cute furry little rodents are apparantly very adept at sniffing out explosives. Some behavioral training later, and presto: a new security scanner.

    Excerpts from UK paper Dailymail:

I foresee some inconvenience for myself if this security-measure become widespread. All I own, is covered in cat hair... :p

  3. Why thanks :)

If you promise not to tell anyone, I'll let you into a little secret...

I'm working on a 3D animation, that in *very* simple terms explains a hypothesis for dark-energy and related expansion and entropy. It's a showcase animation for a new company I'm starting. Possibly in a music-video format for a local band, if I get permission to use an entire tune rather than just a clip. Should'nt be a problem as I am their lights-engineer. Hell, might even get some money out of it, or at least a free night out with plenty beer :p

Anyhow, done the research, done the story-board and started modelling. Depending on how much I have to work in my "real" job, it'll be finished in a month or two...

Then I just have to do the fucking website to start promoting my new business. Positively hate making websites, it's a chore.

So my GC time is limited, keeping busy.

  4. Great stuff, sounds very interesting work.:) Let us know how it all goes and post a preview! Are you drawing the 2d texture maps too?

  5. When I get well into the process, I'll post some previews. As for textures, most will be procedural (parameters can be hooked into frequencies in the music). What remains will mostly be some public domain image maps from NASA/ESA for the bigger objects (galaxies really) that do not really require a high fidelity, as they are only background objects and not really central to the theme of it.

Not quite on topic, is it? :D

Put I'll PM you a youtube link when I got some renders ready :)

  6. Very kind. I look forward to seeing it, thanks:)

  7. The fact that despite the incredible advances in technology, we still rely on biological methods for performing tasks is amazing to me. It reaffirms my love for biology and the complexity of life.
