Body Sketch

Discussion in 'The Artist's Corner' started by xBrent, May 16, 2011.

  1. Hi everyone, I just recently got into sketching again after like 5 years, and I attempted a full (well mostly full) sketch of a woman. Any hints would be appreciated, as I'm always looking to learn.

    Thanks!

  2. looks good. sept it looks like she has a tumor on the left leg.

  3. huh?

    I don't see the tumor...

  4. Too much over exaggeration?

  5. LOL
    that ass is HUGE

  6. Yea. I realize that. I was trying to get the different parts to look realistic, so I accidently over did them.. Thanks :)

  7. the entire upper body looks too thin to be in proportion to the ass / legs. add more detail to the hair, maybe darker too

  8. The biggest downfall with this sketch, in my opinion, is that you have a strong outline going around the entire body. Nothing real in this world has an outline. It will always consist of tone (levels of shadow, mid-tones, and highlights) and texture. If you're shooting for a somewhat realistic sketch, then you just gotta remember to watch those lines. :)

  9. Enigma gave you solid advice. I would also add more contrast between the light and dark parts of the drawing. It can also help to look at a model to save you from guessing the anatomy/shading.

were you looking at a model or was this freehanded?

  10. Yeah i was about to say the same thing as Enigma.

when you start your sketch, do the outline very lightly. when you start to shade it in, it will start looking better.
