I probably never will, but I thought about how if I ever did start breeding, I would just breed the classics, and make that my main focus. I'm surprised no one does that. Just sell seeds of real acapulco gold, panama red, columbian gold, pre-98 bubba, etc... and only focus on that. It seems like there's a real demand for that in the market, I'm surprised how come no one is doing it. Preserve all those old school strains people love. I know SnowHigh has some hierloom / landrace seeds, but you're right, it's usually hard to find the classics.
I think I heard something similar about the strainhunter guys (I believe it was them... correct me if I'm wrong). I watched that documentary where they hunted some congolese strain and the local villages were livid when they found out how much he was going to make off of it, compared to how much he paid them. It's hearsay, but I heard someone mention he would trade well known genetics (like girl scout cookies, etc) for the local seeds, and since the popular genetics are so much easier / higher yielding / etc to grow, the locals start growing those instead. So killing off all the native cannabis. I know firsthand that the weed grown in central Mexico.. the ones being grown outdoors, all the one's I've gotten are autoflowers, and from what I've heard. I've grown the bagseed and they turned out to be autoflowers. It sucks... all those hierloom strains, gone. For those farmers in the mountains, if something gives a bigger / better yield, they're growing it, hands down. Economically it makes much more sense for them unfortunately.
I’ve got a pack of 88g13hp. I’d like to do what Bodhi does and hit it to gg4 or cookies. Mix the new and old. I like all the 88g13hp crosses I’ve grown and gotten great greasy hash from them. Ace sells a lot of the Sativa stuff!
The problem with the classics and landrace strains are they only do well when you can closely replicate their native conditions. No matter how hard ya try, you can't duplicate sea level conditions at 5000 feet or vice versa. Temps and humidity sure, but air pressure..ya got what ya brought. With responsible selective breeding and hydridizing, you end up with plants that almost anyone can grow, in a wider range of conditions. You can also do things like select strains to work with that aren't very suceptible to things like powdery mildew. That is something that earns a lot of respect from me. I think the name of the game today, is to take the landrace strains, throw something modern at them and end up with something really good and new. I personally like to constantly change strains, and keep things fresh. I like what Midwest Mover said, its hard to go wrong throwing gg4 or cookies at a classic. cheers os

@ElRanchoDeluxe does bohdi have its own site? or do you have to go through seed banks and if so which one do you use?
Thanks OS - I didn't consider that. I have an outdoor spot about 300 miles northwest of Acapulco, maybe I can grow that acapulco gold outdoors and somewhat mimic the original conditions. I think it's a bit colder in those parts. I have a few regular seeds, maybe I'll try to grow some indoors and try to grow a few outdoors in that area, and see what happens.
Peach hashplant female #2 is covered in trichomes while she’s still in veg. She smells like a ripe peach when I open my veg tent. I’ve never had a plant like this one before. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Headiegardens got $55 a pack plus shipping $7 and buy 2 get 1 freebie. About 8-10 freebie choices. Comes out to $35 a pack for 3 Strawberry Milk F2 freebie was sitting for a minute but gone now. Was eyeing Black Raspberry which is supposed to be awesome and an extra pack of Black Triangle but didn’t pull the trigger and they are gone.
Thanks for answering a question that had been lingering in my mind, RD! Curious for those of you who grow Bodhi's seeds - would you be able to recommend a variety for me? I'm much more familiar with the old-school names/strains so a lot of these newer hybrid names mean absolutely nothing to me. I'm looking to grow some good smoke, that's about it, as I am not into making concentrates/hash (yet). Just looking ahead for when I'm out of the seeds I have currently.
All the wookie crosses are good. The hashplant crosses always come out good too. Every strawberry milk cross I’ve grown has had nice strawberry smell and flavor. Is there any particular strain that catches your eye Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Hmm, well based on your feedback I'm eyeying some of the Wookie crosses, like Cosmic Serpent, Twin Flame V2, Purple Wookie, and - although not a wookie cross, Dragon's Milk. Also really interested in the Cherry Trance. I notice none of Bodhi's seeds are auto or feminized - is that accurate?
Yeah there all regulars. They come 12 seeds to a pack. There’s always fee packs too. I grew the cherry trance. I liked it. Purple wookie is one of my favorites. I’ve been keeping another of that for close to 2 years now. I got one in flower right now a 6 weeks. I got a pack of cosmic serpent but haven’t popped any. It’s possible to get a bleeder from that strain. Actually the dragons milk is the only one I don’t have a pack off. Any of those strains will be good. There all hybrids Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Awesome, good to know! I'll have to narrow down what I want before I order, but definitely interested now. What do you mean by "it's possible to get a bleeder from that strain"?

Ordered a couple of Bodhi packs after seeing this thread, Lemon Thai and Sunshine Queen. Don't know the strains or anything just took a flyer as they were on sale for $61 dollars a pack plus a free pack of some other strain I have never heard of at JBC. The other thing that may be of interest, I emailed JB and asked him to pick a sativa and skunky azz indica. he gave a few suggestions and I ended up picking with AK4WAY from AK beans and OMH x ZAVA from CannaExotics. I'm not trying to make out like I'm buddies with the guy but we had some correspondence over a last order and it would be silly to not use him as a resource.
