Blueberry Grow

  1. Hi guys,

This would be grow numero uno. No, I didn't buy miracle grow :)

These are Blueberry plants from Dutch Passion germinated from seed. It's almost 2 weeks since germination.

Unfortunately, on one of them a leaf got golden and brown, so i removed it. I suspect this could be related to pH levels, as I've been giving them 7.2 tap. I am now giving them pH adjusted water which measures 6.5 as of last night. Hopefully they will get healthier once the new pH takes effect...

    I have 2 plants and about 200 watts of CFL's on 18/6.

Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  2. You test the pH of your soil? And is your h2o filtered/distilled?

  3. I used tap water, used something to remove the chlorine, and adjusted the pH to 6.5. The runoff was about 6.5 too as of yesterday.

    Testing runoff as of today...

Wow, the pH registered at 7.4.

  4. As you can see, that little spot on the leaf overnight has grown a lot worse.

So this morning I flushed and flushed and flushed with 6.5 pH adjusted plain water. Now she is drying and hopefully recovering.

Do you think this will help? Any other suggestions?

    Edit: These pictures are post-flush.

  5. This morning there is little change. The leaves look a little greener, and there is no additional spotting.

Any other suggestions about this? Do you think pH is the ticket?

Edit: On my 'sick' plant, the new growth has grown more (leaves are now close to the size of the cotyledons), and the new growth looks maybe a titch lighter than I would hope, but not so bad. Residual pH freakage?

I might give them some very dilute nutrients later to continue flushing pH as well as try to resolve some of these deficiencies that may have arisen due to the lockout.

  6. Necrosis seems to be spreading on the 'once good leaf'. Does anybody have any other suggestions? Please help?

  7. The soil looks pretty wet and heavy. Put a couple tablespoons of hydregen peroxide (from the grocery store) in a gallon of water and water as normal. That'll get oxygen to the roots. You could use use some perilite in the soil too.

  8. You'd be lucky if there enough roots to even bother flushing. As long as the water you're giving the plants (wait a few days) is around 6.5..don't worry. Don't add nutrients until your seedlings have recovered.
If you're using soil with food already in it..you shouldn't need to add nutes until about 20-30 days after germination/transplantation.
Lower the H2O pH to around 6.5 of water added and wait.

  9. Thanks, I didn't know if I was barking down the wrong tree.

I did add a few drops of Shultz Plant Food, but I will stop. I'll also pickup some hydrogen peroxide today.

Thanks for the help, I'm new to this :)

  10. Okay, so assuming this is nute burn, what's the best thing to do? Do I just leave them alone for a bit? Next time I water, I will water with pH adjusted water, no nutes, and a capfull of hydrogen peroxide.

The soil's fairly dry today, little bit of moisture. Is it better to flush out the nutes now and let it dry, or let it dry completely, and then water tomorrow?

    Thanks for the replies!

  11. Well, we had some leaf casualties along the way, but things seem to be going much better now, and the new growth is looking healthy.

Also, today I doubled lighting from 116W to 232W, so hopefully I will notice faster growth... hopefully.

This seems to be taking forever :p
