Re: Sick Plants? Have A Question? Ask Here. Problem with Bluewidow Hermie, I guess.... We started with Bluewidow clones and had two good harvests. Beautiful buds, not the biggest producer but good stuff. We have a prepetual grow so we have about 10 plants at different stages. We just harvested three plants that we thought were stunted for some reason. They turned dark purple leaves and all. Small buds but smelly and sticky. We have had a mildew problem so I figured it was the cause of the stunted growth. So as I am working with these buds I realize I have some with SEEDS!! Ahhhhh!!! So I thought ok maybe a new clone came in and had some pollen and we have some seeds. I will have seeds to keep. Then I go to the flowering room and realize we may have more seeds.....so I start looking closely and see a flower just under one of the bottom buds, I touch it and all kinds of powdery pollen falls out on my finger. Upon futher inspection, I realize the alot of the buds have the one single flower. Some buds already have seeds, but some buds look like they are still female and growing big. I have some other plants in the room that I don't see seed pods on. So I have removed them until I figure out what the Bluewidow problem is. Ok so here are my questions: - some of the plants look like they have mostly female buds, can I pick off the few flowers and save the plant? -The ones that have a flower under pretty much each bud, or they have evidence of seeds, should be pulled, killed...burned?? So no chance of saving even the unseeded buds?? -After I deal with killing and/or picking off some flowers to save some plants how do I get rid of the pollen in the flower room to bring in the other plants??? -I have two mother bluewidows that I know were fine for the first two grows, so are my clones going to be fine again?? How do I continue with this??? -Some of the problems I THINK I may have in the flowering room are as follows: Cold at night (which has given us great purple buds) Over fert. the blueberry strain, I read could be a problem, but create a hermie?? Pinching back too much, or pruning in flowering room? -So a pollen flower won't create the pollen sack's on another plant, it is the plant genitics or the environment that would have created the hermie, right?? Help please!!
Im assuming you mean cut off the pollen sacks, buds are the female organs of the flowering plant. Yes you can cut off the pollen sacks to prevent pollination in hermies. but do it VERY CAREFULLY. If some buds have not come into contact with pollen then they will not produce seeds. Its more likely that they are in fact pollinated and your just not seeing the seeds develop yet. Have the pistols of the buds in question shriveled up? If yes then they are most likely pollinated. Who knows, pollen can be very invasive and hard to get rid of. You might want to consider removing all of your plants from the contaminated room and spraying it down with a bleach solution. Pollen only stays viable for about 20 days (ballpark), so you dont need to worry about subsequent grows, if your looking to prevent additional pollination then you will need to do some sterilization. No idea what you mean by this, please be more specific. Pollen should not effect mother plants because they should not be flowering. Does your temperature swing more than 10-15 degrees? Yes, this can cause a plant to hermi. Over fert: Never heard of this causing a hermi... but it wouldnt surprise me. I think you would have to seriously over fert a plant to make it hermi. Pinching back and pruning: Yes, these both induce stress which can cause a plant to hermi. Do it judiciously and allow the plant to recover after. That is correct.
