Blue Dream suffers power outage

  1. Hello everyone,

@bombtombadill asked if I did a journal on my recent Blue Dream run. I didn’t, but now I have one. I pulled some photos and notes out of my daily notebook because I thought some of you might like to see a finished crop after a 7 hour power outage during bloom. It happened during the lights on cycle. Everything stopped, lights, 24 hour hydro circulation, air circulation and exhaust. Also the air conditioner was down. We are in the Front Range of The Rockies, hot and dry summers. We did get a crop that we are proud of.

    BLUE DREAM

    9-10 weeks bloom (75 days)

    Seed planted 12/22/21

    Hydro 24/7 recirculating
    #3 air-pots filled w/hydroton
Air-pots set in 4 gallon buckets
    Botanicare Kind nutrient
    4 Spider Farmer 1000s
    4’ x 4.5’ SCROG
    2 plant sites

    Harvest: 7/13&14/22 24.5 oz.

When I moved from Oregon to Colorado I was given a single Blue Dream seed (feminized). I held that seed in the freezer for close 4 years, finally planted it earlier this year. I grew it out for cuttings and took the best 2 clones for a run.

1 week before flip to bloom. Already topped once and trained to spread out. 3rd defoliation. Almost through the 1st net.

As I defoliate I pull the individual shoots outward to help fill the net. Soft pipe cleaners work well for this task.

Start of 2nd week of bloom, time to defoliate again.

    After defoliation.

5 days later, ready to defoliate again. The shoots are well into the lower SCROG net, lowered 2nd trellis into place. 10” above the lower net.

The previous training along with 4 light placements overhead allows the light to penetrate deep into the canopy.

End of 2nd week of bloom.

During the 4th week of bloom we had the 7 hour power outage.

Beginning of week 5 and coming through the upper net.

Closer look, start of week 5.

    Week 6

Making adjustments with pipe cleaners to keep even spacing for light penetration.

    A joy to look at.

Did the power outage cause this?

The red circle shows a single male flower on this Blue Dream flower. The seed was feminized.

    1. Sometimes feminized seed will exhibit occasional flowers that carry female pollen.
    2. Environmental stress can also cause ‘male’ flowers to show.
    3. The light/dark stress may cause this condition.

I think that it was just an anomaly of the feminized strain. I had this happen two years ago with a different feminized strain from the same boutique breeder, no power outage.

I make the point because so many people fear power outages. Although the power was out for 7 hours the crop survived and thrived. Our harvest was 24.5 ounces of flowers from 2 plants. Tasty and potent.

  2. In my experience it takes 10 days or more of a bad environment condition before the plant becomes "aware" of it let's say. A single event not going to cause anything. I've had extreme wilt to where all the plants should have died (One did) and things snapped back amazingly well and when it was all done you wouldn't have ever known.

  5. Thanks for chiming in vostok
Probably what you suggest. I didn’t use the “R” word to keep it simple and general. I just summarized in 1. of my list of 3 probabilities.

  6. Amazing! This is not just a grow, this is work of art! The plants look incredibly healthy and your grow area is very clean and organized. I've got a long way to go to get to this level--if even possible. Thanks much for posting!
