I was wondering what I can do to stop my fuse from blowing. First, this has happened twice and subsequently, the lighting cycle was disturbed. The first time the lights were off at the beginning for 3-4 hours. Then this morning the fuse blew an hour before the lights were supposed to go off. There are 2 questions here. How will this affect my plants? I know it could stress them but is that the end of them now? will they be hermaphadites now? And the second question is what can I do to stop this from happening? old house so.... im not an electriction
Fuses and breakers "blow" because the amount of electric energy being pulled through the circuit (breaker and in-wall wiring) is more than the circuit can safely handle. DO NOT...... I repeat DO NOT try to fix the problem by installing a fuse that is larger. Fuses are rated by "amps". The size fuse that a circuit uses is determined by in-wall wire size and how many amps that wire size can safely handle without overheating and catching on fire. The theory is that if too much electricity is pulled through the circuit, the fuse will shut the circuit down BEFORE the wire overheats and catches on fire. To fix the problem, you need to lessen the electric load on that circuit. There are a few ways to do this....... 1.) Change the type of lights you are using to a light that uses less energy to achieve the same effect. Flourescent lights use less electricity than HPS lights. 2.) Spread the electric load out over more circuits. Unplug some of your lights and plug them into an outlet that is fed from a different fuse. Hope this helps
the only thing you can do without an upgrade would be to reduce the load on the cirucit or spread it out to another one....... one circuit is normally 15 amps........plug ur lights in as is and plug the accesories into a cord coming off another circuit? what are u running anyways cause 15 amps will support a 1000 watter with ans etc
I'm using (at the time) one 1000w light and a few fans. The garden is pretty new so there is no need for the second 1000w (yet)- also I have not needed to keep the blower on the entire time yet either. the fuse is a 15 so I thought I would not have to worry but now I have concerns about the entire room. I had planned on going with two 1000w and an 8" can fan.
Ya man one 15amp fuse at 120volts is like 1800 watts and you really only wanna take a circut to 80% which would be 1440watts so just check out your different circuts and do some addjusting..
I would suggest you run an extension cord to another circuit as your already pulling close to 10 amps with the 1000 watt light. The fans will pull probably 2-3 amps@ at start up so POOF goes the breaker. That isn't counting whatever else you have hanging on that branch circuit.
