Blood pressure and weed

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by 944atl, Dec 1, 2009.

  1. Hey guys,

I just had a quick question about smoking and effect on blood pressure. I'm 20 and my dad has high blood pressure and he smokes weed at least twice a day (he doesn't know I know.) he also drinks a ton of beer throughout the day and smokes cigarettes. I don't know how the he'll, but every time he goes to the doctor he comes back saying that the he's extremely healthy besides his high blood pressure which he takes medicine for.

I don't know if healthiness is genetic, but I never get sick and always check out fine at check ups...not overweight or anything like that.

If weed has some weird immune system effects, my dad is a perfect example. Someone who drinks smokes and tokes like he does should not be getting thumbs ups from doctors.

I have caught my blood pressure high a few times either at walmart or with my aunts personal bp machine. The highest I think has been like 180/100.

I've stopped drinking as much caffiene and it's pretty normal now on a consistent basis BUT now that I've resumed smoking I'm worried it may be getting up there again.

I just want to be sure I'm not going to drop dead from a heart attack lol.

I wouldn't be too worried about it having a negative effect, but If you're that worried about...it make some Hemp Oil. It lowers your blood pressure and if you have diabetes it keeps your blood sugar levels in check as well as cures cancer.

Here's the link on how to do it.

I read a book titled "The Science of Marijuana" and in it they discuss the effects of marijuana and blood pressure in studies. I'll see if I can copy and paste some of the graphical information for you.

  4. 180/100 is pretty high. I don't know if occasional spikes are considered something that you should take BP meds for at your age - I'm a lot older than you are, and had similar spikes and now take an Ace Inhibitor. You may want to see a doctor about it, just as a precaution.

Those machines in the stores are notoriously unreliable, since they're used all day by everybody and his brother.

  5. Thanks a ton for all the info. I immediately linked the increased heart rate to a spike in blood pressure, which from that info is actually the opposite of what's happening. I'm going to get my own personal bp tracker and just keep an eye on it.

    Thanks again

I'm an RN. That BP is way too high for someone your age. It can be genetic, but you are way too young for even that to show - unless you are african american, in which case it can be very high, at a very young age - we don't really know why. Cigarette smoking will increase it tremendously, so does being overweight, salt in your food, not exercising (exercise, like brisk walking 2 miles, increases the flexibility of arteries and lowers your pressure in a few weeks). Then of course there is stress, heredity, age, gender, race, etc.

This is not a problem to take lightly, High BP can damage kidneys, heart, brain and heaven forbid; the penis! All those Viagra, Cialis commercials - listen to what the men are saying about BP and ED (erectile dysfunction) All without any symptoms, until it's too late. It's a thief in the night. Get to an MD and start taking care of yourself. Weed is probably the least of the issues here.

High blood pressure is cheap and easy to treat, Check it out. You are too young to have BP like this.

Sorry to be such a grown-up.

  7. Lol don't worry about being a grown up...especially when my penis is in danger lmao. I haven't checked it in a loooooong time (3-6 mo) and it had been pretty consistant 130/80...however I love caffiene and working in retail normally causes me to eat some sort of processed food with really high sodium. I just wanted to be sure that the increased heart rate wasn't going to mess me up.

    Thanks again
