Hello, I am a noob please help. These are two weeks old two lil ones stunted and started curling after 1 week. The big one started strong then the two bottom leaves got crunchy and brittle i touched it and it broke in half I transplanted and changed the soil today to some african violet miracle grow i put 1/2 teaspoon of lime into the mix and added more perlite . I have been watering with a teaspoon of super thrive per gallon but im thinkin that may have been too much. I have also been watering alot because the lil cups i had them in stayed crunchy dry. maybe too much water? or too much noob? This is bagseed since i didnt wanna blow money on good seeds and FAIL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think too much love. Looks like nutrient burn to me. That MG African Violet provides enough food for 30 days (after each transplant, and intial planting) you are just burning these guys alive. So - no more nutes for a while Also you mentioned you're watering a lot - how often? and how do you decide how much water to give each time?
Thank you for responding so quick, As I can imagine every new grower does I check my plant about every hour, I go in and say are you ok baby, need anything. I water when the soil is really dry which ends up being once a day. I alternate between watering with a spray bottle of old (like a day or two) tap water not ph adjusted, and pouring ph adjusted, tap water with Super Thrive. Lately I have been misting about twice a day because the leaves looked dry. And the really brittle leaf that broke made me over vigilant. Im going to stop using the super thrive.
Okay - every day is too much. Ideally, you should be watering ever 3-5 days. Water until you see runoff - and then you can stop. Over watering will cause drooping and makes it virtually impossible for plant roots to get air (which is necessary) also - stop spraying them - it has the possibility of doing harm (don't panic, it's a possibility not a sure thing) and does very little as far as helping them to absorb moisture, as marijuana is not much of a foliar feeder. What is the temperature and humidity of your grow space?
The humidity varies from 16% - 40% and the temp goes from 50- 80F, I have them on 18/6 light sschedule and the temp drops during the 6.
okay - well the low humidity is a big contributor to why you feel like your soil is drying out so quicly. You want your humidity up between 40-60% for veg.. I try for around 55% in my veg space. When you get to flowering you can drop your humidity a bit to prevent molding on the buds (i try for around 35%-40% humidity in my flower space) You want your temps to vary no more than about 10-15 degrees between your light and your dark period - so try to shrink down your variation in temps (consider doing 20/4 for lights). Also - I recommend not letting your temps drop below 60 degrees F -- 50 is pretty cold.
you don't have to switch to 20/4 -- i'm just hoping that will reduce the range of your high and low temps.
I am going to take your advice it will keep it from getting too cold in there for too long. Plus your alot further ahead in growing than I am, and I appreciate the fact that your taking time to help me
hey whats up ..well i started my grow with cfl ...and they got kinda like urs from nute burn .. maybe try backing your light away a lil not to much ...i use to put my cfl real close and would see liltle signs of stress but i did see some signs of stress tho ..when i backed the light aways all the leaves streahced toward the light they werent droopy no more ...u could try it...and the droopy and color change is definatly cus of ur soil and super thrive to much of what u dnt need ....but your plants will survive ......just give it water and if u want just a lil of super thrive ..you got plenty of time to veg ...let the plant use up the nutes in the dirt ...just for like a week ...it a be like a clense...u can say....
