I want to grow a plant under my desk, and I'm hoping to keep it in a box to prevent prying eyes from spotting it. I found this box, and I'm wondering if it's a suitable size for one plant: You can see my hand there for scale. My light set up is pretty simple: a pair of 26W (100W equivalent) CFs, and I'm planning on a simple ebb and flow hydroponic setup, but I'm wondering if this box is too small for something like that.
I cant tell you about the size but it looks ok for a lowryder. But the only problem is the box is paper! and in there you gonna have electricity + water + humidity + stoned mind = huge ass fire. you can buy a nice small wooden box under 10$. (fleamarkets)
looks a little on the small side but if you train it you might be able to do it. i don't think the cardboard box should be a problem in terms of a fire but you might need a little more wattage for flowering
in my personal opinion i wouldnt do it in a cardboard box.. and it might be a little small.. they grow to be pretty big.. do a PC box grow.. theres tons of info on it in this site and its low key.. good luck on whatevr you decide to do..
If you want to do a hydro, definitely get a rubbermaid box or two and stack them, and get a few more cfl's. Cardboard is not ideal for growing, it's a fire hazard waiting to happen; as stated before, water+electricity =
Unfortunately, the most suitable lighting bit I've found only has two slots for CF bulbs, and it will be hard for me to find another one. I might be able to, if I was to look around, but it might be better to put in some higher-wattage or higher-lumen CFs in there. What's in there right now are two 26Ws that would produce 1800 lumens each, but I can apparently get up to 32 that would produce 2600 each. Apparently, though, you can get some socket ballasts that you can just plug into a power strip, which will save me a lot of bother. No idea where to find them or how to make them, though... I'll probably try that PC grow thing, though. There's tons of old PCs sitting around here, and that's about all they would be useful for. It would also make the noise of the fans make a bit more sense...
