I'm thinking of starting up an aero cloner without a grow medium, just clones held in be the 2" neoprene inserts that I have a bunch of, which sit perfectly in the 2" netpots (I've seen a few videos of are done with this way).. using 24-30 sites in a rubbermaid tote.. my question is, being that I can't afford a chiller just yet, would it be better to use the 1000 GPH pump I have running on shorter cycles? or a smaller (maybe 400GPH) pump running up to 24/7 in order for the solution to not get too warm?
I would definitely go with the smaller pump, but still using short cycles. 15 min on, 30 off seems to work great. My 27 gallon tote (approx 10 gal res) uses a 160 gph pump and it works just fine. Temps were a little hard to control at first when i had it running constantly but now it seems to be fine. Ambient temp inside and outside the grow room makes a bit of a difference. Also if you keep having trouble with temps being slightly too high, like in the 78-82 range, try using that EZClone stuff called Clear Rez. All it is is a very VERY diluted hydrochlorous acid solution which is basically bleach and water, which seems to do the trick (or you can try to make your own). They also say to try raising your res off the floor with like 2x4's to let air circulate around it helps keep temps down. Hope some of this was helpful.
