Best Oil for extracting THC?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by bob the bro, Oct 25, 2012.

  1. I want to extract a small amount of bud in a cupcake pan to expierence a edibal high without the cost. I only have 2 grams left and I don't smoke that much so I don't car if the oil is bad for you. I know coconut is the best, but i can't find any in my area. So what other oil is the best for extacting the most thc?

  2. unless there's something special about the medium long triglycerides from coconut oil for dissolving thc I can't think of how one oil would be better than the other .

Here's an excerpt from a past post I made on a similar topic :)

    -----

    Oil Sources or 'edible solvents':

The oil source you choose, plays a huge role in the quality and length of your experience!

Different oils are absorbed better (and worse) by different areas of your digestive tract, besides that coconut and a few other oils have relatively high saturated fat contents (great for breaking down cannabis glandular material!) it also has a high MCT content, and these fatty acids are absorbed rapidly and reliably on contact with the earliest branches of the portal vein in the upper stomach, for quick delivery to the liver where much of your D9-THC is converted to the more powerful 11-OH-THC.

Unlike the lymphatic absorption favored by LCTs, which bypasses the liver and takes longer to occur, with an oil that has a high MCT content you'll have 1) a much faster onset, and 2) a stronger, and longer-lasting experience from the same amount of bud! :hello:

In a very tiny handful of patients with dysfunctional livers though, or overactive enzymes regardless how recently they last ate, bypassing the liver actually *can* sometimes be a good thing to avoid the over-metabolization of potency. :)

However, for 9 out of 10 patients and 99% of recreational users, for the strongest, longest-lasting experience, you want to direct as much of your potency through your (recently 'fed') liver as possible, in which case coconut oil, palm kernel oil, or to a lesser extent, clarified butter, are the best options!

Coconut and palme kernel oil are usually over 60% MCT's (medium-chain triglycerides or fatty acids), rather than the LCT's found in most common vegetable oils and animal fats/lards.

*** Butter is more easily found by many patients who can't order online, but it only contains between 15% - 25% MCT's depending on the cow and its feed.... if you can't find anything else, buying and clarifying some butter (it's easy!) would be your best option. :)

    edit -

This should help... the same instructions can be scaled up or down and working with smaller amounts is, if anything, more simple (and for those harvesting just recently, larger amounts simply require evenly dispersing the material during the decarb or activation, and pre-heating your oils more thoroughly, with the overall goal to provide the same extraction/heat exposure ;) ).

TL;DR - Go for the butter, but clarify it for the best results. :)

Hope this helps, good luck and have fun!
