Best LEDs for

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by OZs_786, Jun 13, 2019.

  1. I am looking for a quality LED light(s) that is actually the strength advertised. I know not every light is the wattage advertised, so I just wanted to know what you guys here in the community use. I’m only looking for something for propagation and seedlings for now so a big powerful LED isn’t necessity for me.
I only want something strong enough to get my plants to maybe 5 or 6 nodes at most. What do you guys use in your cloning system? Specific brands/ spectrums that you prefer?
Let me know of anything that can help. Hell even a good reputable supplier would be useful.
    Thanks again, fellow GC members!

  3. Quantum boards. For the money you really can't beat em.

  4. Yeah I heard that “blurple” spectrum is useless shit.

I’ve heard of these, these are the ones you can assemble yourself or order preassembled right? I’ll have to look more into these, any ones you have experience with or could recommend from someone else? I don’t know too much about quality lighting brands as I’m OD this season

  5. Lighting
Theres a few ppl on all these threads that know in-depth info on quantum boards. You’ll figure out quickly who has all the right answers

  6. I agree with the qb recommendation 100%. Yes these are either pre-assembled or DIY. DIY on these is relatively easy and can save you significant money.

What size space do you want to light?

  7. I’m not looking for a light for huge space. I just need something for clones and seedling/sprouts for now. Maybe I’ll take one or two plants into flower with it just to experiment, but the rest I’m gonna toss outdoors gradually once I think they are strong enough. I’ve read and posted other threads and other blades here recommend the HLG 65
I was thinking either that one, or the HLG 100, since I will need it for maybe 5 or 6 sprouts for now. Do you think those will do me any good? Like I said, I’m not looking to take all of them to flower with them. Maybe at some point but discretion is my goal right now.

  8. I have zero growing experience but I have done a LOT of research. Like obsessive. Lol Anyway, I'm a firm believer in quantum board technology based on the science and the results I've seen here. I was recommended the 65 for the same use. Chances are good that this will be what I go for when the time comes.

  9. I feel you brother lmao.
This season will be my first as well, I started OD, but I just recently decided to start my indoors instead, since my most recent attempt with seedlings was squandered by the summer heat :(:(:(
But I’ve been researching and learning a lot for nearly a DECADE, since I started smoking. And from what I know QB LEDs are comparative to MH/HPS at some intensities. I will more then likely just get the 100W since I really want to experiment with indoor soon. I’ll have to post updates for you guys whenever I do.
Thanks for the reply brother!:thumbsup:

  10. I've been messing around with Raymatix lights cus they've been hooking it up. But I think they are only offering 4' length lights right now. They can veg to flower, I'd check them out or even message them on their site to see if they'd hook up a new grower to get em hooked ha. If you're just gonna pop seeds and veg and move outdoors then I'd prob to a QB board cus they have lower outputs in probably smaller form factors. Their stuff flowers well too. Fluence Spydr is also good but pricey.

  11. I hope I don’t offend by jumping in but I’m looking into these too. I’ve got a small led, online cheapo. Looking at the hlg lights I haven’t figured the 3000k-4000k eq to watts but which one would do 4 or 5 plants in a 2x6 closet or a utility room that I could convert if needed? I’m an outside looking to go indoors for a winter grow. DWC or sip, haven’t decided yet. Again, sorry OP.

    @dobro49

I have 2 setups and very happy with both. You should consider 2x Oneo 3500k+660nm red, that would be 520w and would be the cheapest route and also put you at 43W Per SQ FT..

Quantum Boards wattages are as advertised for a 2x6 you would need atleast 4x 120w LM301B boards..My go to would be the hlg 3500k+660nm red. cost a little more, worth it if you like to DIY..

Cobs are always an option as well

    Tent 1.. Bloomspect 600W (blurple126w actual), 2x Quantum Boards 4000k 120W.. total 240W in a 32x32" Tent

    Tent 2.. Oneo II 1200W (260W Actual) 3500K + 660NM Red, 36x20" Tent

  13. Haven’t heard of those before. I’ll have to check them out brother, thanks. Just copped the HLG 65 for now. Definitely want to move indoor at some point so I’ll be looking at all kinds of options til then.
    Appreciate the reply

  14. May 28th I started an auto grow with the Mars TS 1000 (150 actual watts) white LED. It's dimmable, so I necked it down to 75 watt for the first week. I was planning to use until I see flowers, then switch to my CLW blurple. But it's doing so well I'm going to use it all the way for one plant.

  15. Cool vthizz, thanks a lot. I’ll be on these forums more now that I’m getting this started. Just a warning, another noob on the way. Thank you again.:thankyou:

  16. I mix bluple (Platinum LEDs) with quantum boards on my grows. more the merrier. mix of light spectrums can benefit the plant (unless low quality china made lights) in my opinion.

here are some of my grows from last january

  17. Let me help you out. I've been growing for a few years and learned a few things that you won't have to take years to learn as well.

The HLG65 is a great light but they sort of jack the price up to give you the all inclusive kit which you don't need if you have some very simple wiring and hardware DIY skills.

If you have the space to set it up I would recommend a 4x4 veg tent. You might not realize that you'll want space for a variety of things like a clone area, small plants, and possibly a few larger plants that are almost ready to flip to flower. You don't need high light levels for veg and it's cheap to fill with good light so don't limit youself on space if you have the area for the 4x4 veg space. Even a 3x3 is pretty cramped. I use one for my veggie herb garden for the kitchen and I already wish I would have just set it up in a 4x4. It's way more room. 3x3 is 9 square feet. 4x4 is 16. It's over 50% larger.

Horticulture lighting group that invented this board tech sells the same boards they make the HLG 65 out of in a 4 pack.
    QB120 V2 Quantum Boards

Get 4k for veg. It's $132 for the boards.

Get 4 of these for power so each board has it's own driver. They're super simple to setup and give you some dimming range with their voltage dimmer. Just buy a cheap 12 foot extension cord and rob the wire for the boards. The drivers have screw terminals so no splice connections necessary.

The cool thing about having a driver on each board is you can unplug one or two boards when you have all seedlings and 4 is too much power.
    LRS-75-24 - MEAN WELL - Open / Enclosed Frame AC-DC Power Supplies

Put a hanger on each board so you can adjust them individually over different size veg plants and link them to the ratcheting hanger with 4 9" trout leaders from walmart.

  18. I still have a platinum p900 in my closet collecting dust. I did that one grow. Mixed with a qb260 and got great results. Looks like some killer smoke.

  19. Whoa bro, those look delightful. Are those LEDs also HLG or are they a different brand?
I’m still in between which brands are best, so I only got a lower wattage light for now. Someday I hope to have multiple spectrum lamps as well. Have you heard of supplementing UV-B?
That’s a nice set up you got there brother, that plants a monster!
Unfortunately I won’t be purchasing any tents or other indoor equipment, as I’m only gonna start a few seedlings and maybe get a couple clones before I shift em outside. I got a 4K LED light for sure, for now. But man, appreciate the advice. I only got the 65W but you say the boards that come in the four pack are the same? Which lamp should you use for flower, or can you take these all the way to bloom? I might try to grow just one or two out sometime just to experiment. I definitely wanna move indoors sometime soon for sure though, so I’ll remember to comeback to this thread again, thanks brother. :metal::metal:

  20. I like the qb96 elite v2's for flower lights.

    4 does pretty well in a 4x4.
