Word. Bubble cloner costs like $25. Put a heater in, set it at 78-80*. Fill with tap water (at least where i live, 150ppm tap). I haven't had a plant die yet. They all root. I've done close to a 100 in the last couple months. If you want aero check out the rumple cloner (DIY thread on here by rumpleforeskin). I am sure it is just as effective as well.
Rumpleforeskin is highly regarded around the grow forums and this is his thread for building an aero cloner http://forum.grasscity.com/do-yourself/444974-lets-build-clone-machine-step-step.html So, if he says that this method offers 100% results, I am rather inclined to agree with him. I built my own cloner using this guide almost step for step and haven't even tested it out yet because I am so confident that he knows a LOT more than I do about growing hydroponically.
There is a differnece. Search them both. I have one of each but can't comment on the performance difference. I will say you can buy all the parts for a bubble cloner at Walmart. I have had about 85 and a quarter percent success. GDP is not easy to clone for some reason. 100 percent with other clones. Bubbles are easy. I have a really dumb neighbor who has 100 percent success also.
Hi There! We use something very close to this: http://www.ecogrow.com/index.cfm/product/2108/mid/0/nid/0/home.html We use the Rapid Rooter plugs, and the Clonex Gel. We also use this, mixed full strength: Vita Grow Anti-Wilt or Rooting Compound from Growco Indoor Garden Supply We mix up a couple gallons of H2O2 treated R/O water (5 ml H2O2 per gal) and we add several drops of Superthrive...incredible stuff. Then, we soak the Rooter plugs overnight in some of the Superthrive pH Balanced R/O water. We split the Rooter Plugs, and generously coat the prepared (surface cells stripped away at the cut area etc.) surface with Clonex Gel. We cut our clones, bring them out three at a time (15 total) and we go through this process. Then, once they are in the split plug, we use some ties to hold the plug together. We spray all surfaces with the Anti-Wilt. The plugs are put into the plastic tray, which is then placed about 12" from a 2' fluorescent fixture (T5 I think) on the heating pad. The humidity dome is left on continuously, ad we spray the clones frequently to ensure the plugs don't dry out, and so that it stays very humid in the dome. We use the pH balanced R/O water with the Superthrive in it for the spraying of the clones and the plugs the entire time Using this method, we get strong roots at 11-13 days after cutting, and our success rate is right at 100%. A Bubble Cloner is likely easier than this method, but thought I would share this technique, for any that may be interested. It works well.
I agree Rumple's D.I.Y.s are really cool!! A friend of mine made the cloner and he got results within days!!! I'm building mine right now as we speak!!
bubble cloner is the way to go. u can make ur own really cheap. 20 bucks at most and that includes the air pump and stone. i made a cloner that holds 6 clones(well spaced) in a 12-24 container with 2 air stones running to a dual outlet air pump that has a dome on it. if u spray a the dome and the plants and place the light close to the dome (depending on light, i use 2 2ft t12 flouros so i can put it ontop of the dome no problem) regular tap water should work, if you want to get spiffy you can ph the water to 5.8 but thats as far as i would go. im batting 100%
Bubble cloners are great, so are fake aeroponic style cloners, these two are basically the same thing. I like using rapid rooters, keeps everything nice and easy plus you can fit hella of them in those trays.
yeah but your lucky to get 50% survival if that ... I've had better results with just putting a cutting(s) in a cup of tap water
I've had no problems with survival a few die here and there but when you have two tray loads at 50 a tray...that's 100 clones...which in the event if I lost 50% I wouldn't care still have 50 left to go. I mean I didn't keep any of my clones, Didn't wanna keep growing the same shit. but everybody has there method. I like cloner units just I find the rapid rooters to suit my needs better as I can just plop them right into my dwc buckets.
both bubble and aero cloners work great, but the bubble cloners are much easier to build and maintain and cheaper.
