Benedryl and OTC Sleep aids are the same thing!

  1. Alright so I was just looking through my medicine cabinet for sleeping pills when I notice this...

Benedryl: Active Ingredient....25 mg dimethylethylamine hydrochloride
Nytol : Active Ingredient....25 mg dimethylethylamine hydrochloride
Sominex: Active Ingredient....25 mg dimethylethylamine hydrochloride
Meijer Brand Allergy Capsules: Active Ingredient....25mg dimethylethylamine hydrochloride

But for some damn reason, allergy capsules always cost more than sleeping pills even though theyre the exact same thing and are often made by the same companies! Sounds like a scam.

I guess this was kind of pointless, but I thought it was interesting.

  2. That's cool, I'm gonna have to ask my buddy who's going to school to be a pharmacist. Next time I have allergies I might just pop some sleeping pills.

  3. indeed, pointless.

  4. if you guys have ever taken benedryl, you would know it knocks you the fuck out

and please guys, NEVER EVER EVER TRIP OFF BENEDRYL, its the most uncomfortable thing you will ever DO

  5. ^I take benedryl to sleep. It works ok. Nothing really works better and for some strange reason it works better than the OTC sleep aids I've took. I knew they were the same thing, which is why I think its weird that benedryl helps me sleep and sleep aids dont. It must be in my head

  6. Not nearly as pointless as that post though. If you have nothing to add, hold your tongue.

I dont think its in your head, Ive noticed the same thing. Benedryl doesnt kick in as fast as sleeping pills will, but once it does I can fall asleep in an instant, much easier than if I took Sominex or Nytol.

  7. I tried tirppin off em twice..

    ya uncomfterable..

    o_O

  8. Ya not a good idea. I took 5 nytols once and it just made my ears ring like a mother fucker. Had some crazy ass dreams though. Something about a 10 story ice slide into the Mississippi River, with David Gilmour from Pink Floyd talking to me from an open page in a book, and my 6 year old cousin discussing Shakespeare with me while I was playing Bethoven on my guitar with 2 strings...ya fucked up.
