Beginners Brownies and Cookies

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Rasarray, Jun 26, 2019.

  1. Hi there, I’m posting from the UK so may need some help with the jargon and I’m a beginner grower. I would like to make some brownies and cookies with my harvest but am not sure about how much weed to add to butter - what the ratio should be when making canna butter. I know I have to decarb beforehand but have no idea of how much to use when making a batch of brownies. Can anyone advise please? Many thanks,

I use 1 ounce weed to 1 lb oil (2 cups) approximately 444 ml... That makes four 1/2 cup servings. I use only 1/2 cup per recipe and use additional plain oil if the recipe asks for more. Some recipes for brownies ask for 1/3 cup and others ask for 1/2 cup. Many cookies ask for a stick of butter (1/2 cup).

This ounce to pound of oil is my way of getting a consistent mix every time, but it does not take into consideration the strength of your weed.

If you start with 7g before decarb and use slightly over 1/2 cup oil (<115 ml) add a bit more to account for small loss that gets trapped in the herb when straining) You will have enough oil for a single test batch. Then you can start with testing the strength of the edibles and decide if you want to use more herb or more oil in your next try.

What method of oil/butter extraction are you planning on doing? I do not recommend any use of water in that process, but others swear by it.

  3. Always decarb first anything you intend on making into food or drink.
    240 F for 40 minutes (115.5 C) Uncovered.

5 grams Cannabis. Hash, Kief, Concentrates, Powdered buds. (decarbed)
    2.5 teaspoons Coconut oil
    1/2 teaspoon Lecithin
    Heat 220 F for 20 minutes (104.4 C)
    Freeze
    Heat 220 F for 20 minutes
    Done.

This will make 1 tablespoon of very high strength oil. Can be used as is and capsuled or added to the additional oil called for in most baked goods.

    1 gram = 1000mg
If your weed is 15% you have 150mg per gram of THC
5 grams = 750 mg of THC using Street grade herb

Concentrate like the Kief I use are more in the 50% range so 500mg per gram.
2500mg of THC in the 5 gram recipe.
The basic recipe fills 30 (0) sized caps @ 83mg each with concentrates.

    25mg each with powdered buds.

Many legal state now limit edibles to 10mg each and that is not a bad place for new users to start at. Wait 2 hours for the first to have taken full effect before taking more.

  6. My best advice when making edibles is to keep close track of exactly your amounts of cannabis-concentrates used. This way your making the same strength oil every time and you'll know what to expect from a given dose.
Sneak up on the first few highs as it can be a very long miserable time if you way over shoot the dose.
While not actually harmful it can be very intense and uncomfortable to be that hammered on cannabis even for somebody like me with years of daily edible use. I still can get surprised and wind up way over the line at times.
