So i wanna grow about 2-4 plants in a closet and i wanted to know what would be the best lights to use for under $150. Ive been doing my homework on the different types of lights and i found out that its best to use a MH(Metal Halide) for vegitation cycle and a HPS(high pressure sodium) for the flowering cycle. But seeing how i am on a budget and cant afford both lights i was wondering if i could use one of these lights for both cycles or use a T5 lamp??
there is a company called Hortilux that makes an HPS lamp with more blue in it. I use that by its self for the entire length of my grows. Its something to look into, but if you go with T5s you will still need to switch between the 6500k for veg and the 3500k for flower.
You can grow with CMH. If you go to htg supply you can buy a full system for less then 150 and that would be hps
Thats the thing though i just wanna spend around $100-$120. I still need to buy a couple more things.
Then buy what you can afford the 250 w is only 117 bucks 3 dollars under budget. Once you have more money order a mh bulb. Stay away from those T5 I looked into that your going to sped a lot more then 120
In my opinion i would go with a 250 watt or 400 watt hps light look on craigslist for a good deal but be sure to test the light or call around to your local hydro stores and see if they have any lights on sale or have any used setups i just picked up a 2 used 1000 watt sun systems with ballasts bulbs and xtra large air cooled hoods and they had only been used for one season either that or go with some high quality 6500k t5 lights but you would have to get a 2 foot 8 bulb and a few single strips for quality buds i did a test on flowering with ta 5 light and i was very impressed with how quality my buds were but the yield was much less then if i would have used a HPS
HTGSupply has a 250w HPS kit for around $120. Just remember that you will have temp issues to deal with running hot lights in a closet.
So i guess it should be better if i just use a HPS lamp for the flowering and vegetative cycles. I was thinking about getting a 150 watt lamp(HPS)150 Watt High Pressure Sodium Mini for 2 plants, would this be enough or should i invest in a 250 watt lampNEW 250 watt HPS GROW LIGHT 250w High Pressure Sodium and grow 4 plants. *first time growing*
personally I'd go with the 250, seeing as I am on my 1st grow, I am already looking into a 400w air cooled! its one of those hobbies where ya just wanna upgrade!
So im thinking about getting this High Tech Garden Supply ..... what do you people think about this? Can i use the mh conversion bulb (hps lamp) for the vegitation cycle? Im growing in a closet that is 3 x 7 ft. I want to grow around 4 plants.......
Or how about this 400W 400 HPS+ MH Digital Grow Light Reflector Ballast - eBay (item 230426304120 end time Jan-28-10 19:25:17 PST)
I bought a 400w lamp on amazon.com for about $150 and it uses both hps and mh lights. its from a company call LEDwholesale or something like that. Best of both worlds.
If you're going to use the entire 21 sq. ft. area of your closet to grow 4 plants, then I'd argue that neither a 250w (1300 lumens/sf) nor a 400w (2600 lumens/sf) would be enough light. A 600w would be OK but a 1000w would be even better. You'll have to downsize your expectations or upsize your lumens, friend. GL!
So i finally came to a conclusion lol.... im going to buy a 400 watt hps lamp and a CFL lamp Lithonia Lighting 4 Ft. Strip 2-Bulb 40 Watt T12 Fluorescent Fixture - C 2 40 120 MBE 2INKO at The Home Depot The only question i have now about lighting is what kind of bulbs i should get....i know i should get 1 cool and 1 warm but what should be the wattage or spectrum of the bulbs?
