Been 30 years since I've smoked, recommended a card.

Discussion in 'Medical Cannabis: Treatments & Patient Experiences' started by AndyPanda, Apr 8, 2010.

  1. Hey everyone of Grasscity, have a small problem here.
Was diagnosed as bipolar with anxiety when I was 17, and I still have it... I used to smoke back in my college/highschool days but it's been over 30 years since those. My psychiatrist recommended me a specialist to see about 3 months ago who might pass me for a card but I'm still working and am worried that if my job drug tests (which they haven't in over 15 years) I will get fired. So my question to all of you is, should I go see the guy and go for the card or continue to have my disorder with no sort of medication.

The reason I'm on no medication is because nothing worked for me, I've been on just about everything so here I am looking to either get back into it or stay how I have been for a couple of months now without the meds. I can provide more details if asked, I'm not sure what needs to be said and doesn't so I'll leave it up to you guys for the advice and answers.

  2. You can smoke if you have a medical card.

  3. Yup, I'd go get a card if you have that option. Oh, and hold on for the ride if you get a hold of some killer dank for your first time. This ain't Grandpas herb anymore after 30 years...

  4. If there is any slight reason at all that you think they would randomly drug test a commited employee like i'm sure you are then I would say stay unmedicated...

But if they haven't in 15 years then I doubt they're going to suprise you now, I say go for it, and even if they DO drug test you, you have an extremely legitimate argument with that medical MJ card in your pocket.

  5. I wouldn't worry about the job problem. If you really think it would be an issue, and you are on good terms with your boss (you said you've been working there for 15+ years, right?) I would maybe bring up the subject with one of them. As long as you don't show up to work blasted, im sure it shouldn't be a problem bro.

Marijuana is definitely the best cure for my anxiety, i have tried many prescription pills and none of them worked.

  6. Don't tell your boss anything... None of their business and could lead to you being tested.

  7. I have heard that sativas are good for mental illness like bipolar. Also I have heard switching between Saiva and indica depending on your mood swings works well too. Sativa for depression and indica for when you are up too high. I can't say anything from experience because I am waiting for my med card before I smoke. I am bipolar as well and I haven't smoked since the late 70's early 80's except for 3 years ago when I smoked to see if it got me out of pain. I don't know if it did cause I was too high to remember to check! I had 2 wimpy puffs and didn't hold my breath and my tolerance was so low I could barely walk. I was higher than I had been on my first time, but back them we got bags full of stems and seeds and shake which looked like oregano to me, I got pretty dam high like a four on a scale of 10 and this last time was more like a 6. And I am inhaling I know, so don't anyone tell me otherwise. Just this last time I got high I didn't even hold my breathe in at all and I was so high when I got home in the evening an hour later I went right to sleep because I didn't want my teens to figure out I was high. I have a college student home now , but I have discussed my smoking reefer with my kids and they are at least ok with it. I am disabled from the Bipolar 1 and Fibromyalgia which I am suffering from so I don't have much choice, but I am looking forward to getting high with some trepidation.

  8. For me; I tried a period of MJ and no meds, the MJ took the edge off of my moods, but it didn't stop them, nor their frequency. I ended up on a different mood stabiliser; but as far as anti depressants, and benzos, I have had no need for these since I began smoking more frequently.

For me, the big difference has been the stability it has afforded to me. I wouldn't like to go back to how I was before, especially as I can do it whilst doing something I enjoyed before anyway :D

As far as the drugs tests go, if the job hasnt done it for fifteen years, why should they suddenly start now?

  9. I live in Michigan and also have Bipolar disorder which I think is linked to my Anxiety, on a scale from 1-10 id say im a 3 for both bipolar and anxiety. I also have some seasonal depression but thats just from living in Michigan. 6 months hot/Cold.

Now, I have been wanting ask a physician about the card too, because it's in MI now.

To the OP, good luck, I hope you get one. I never want to try any pills to help my problems because being my anxious self Id rather have something I know is Organic and of the Earth, and also something I know what effects it has on me everytime. That plant is Weed.

Its unfortunate how people look down upon smokers, but they go home and take Vic's and Zolo's for nothing.

  10. Hey OP, sorry to hear about your bipolar,

First of all, I wouldn't mention anything about marijuana to anyone at work, especially your boss, bad idea. As for the person that said you can smoke if you have the card, umm yes you can but you will still be fired if you fail a drug test.

There's really very little known about bipolar so even all the pills the doctors have aren't exactly useful for everyone, it can take years and years and years to find the right balance. It probably wouldn't hurt to try out marijuana and see if it works for ya. I would also advise getting a regular dose of omega-3s every day and keep yourself very scheduled.

    Good luck

  11. Hey everyone, sorry it took me so long to get back to the thread went to the doc, brought all of my records and history and such he just called me and said I'll have my card mailed to me in a week. Was pretty nervous because I didn't want to sound like I was there just for weed but I guess I'm pretty happy about getting a card and getting some stuff to help me a bit. And yeah, I've been working at my company for 29 years and they drug tested at first but stopped so I'll be sure not to tell anybody about it...

Looking forward to it and thanks for the advice and such everyone... appreciate it. :D

  12. Sounds awesome, I hope that MMJ works out for you! Just a quick note on the work front, please be aware that most companies still abide by Federal employment laws, so while you have an argument with an MMJ card (if you get tested), it may not be a guaranteed defense since MMJ is still not acknowledged at the Federal level. There was a story posted here a short while ago about someone being fired from Wal-Mart for testing positive who was a certified card-carrying MMJ patient.

I would hate for you to throw away 29 years for something like this, especially if you're on some kind of pension plan that may be affected.

Just want to make you aware of all that is going on right now with regards to the laws. As I said before, we're winning the battles with MMJ laws (States), but we're far from winning the war (Federal).

  13. When you test positive just wave your med card in their face and say "fuck you prick"

  14. Chances are when that "prick" is your supervisor or HR manager, if they can't fire you on the spot just for that statement (right to work state), then chances are they'll make your life a living hell until you quit.

Point is don't be a dick about it if you test positive, and remember that most companies abide by Federal laws, who legally respond with "Fuck you very much."
