Becoming a personal caregiver? MA

Discussion in 'Marijuana News' started by juiceifer, Nov 21, 2012.

  1. Now that medical marijuana is legal in Massachusetts I'm encouraging my elderly grandmother, who is currently receiving treatment for Ovarian cancer, to get her medical card. I turn 21 in march and I was really hoping to become her personal caregiver and grower. I just don't know how to go about that. Does anyone understand how the process of becoming someone's personal caregiver works?

Thanks in advance for the help

  2. I am not sure any of this is established yet, and its still unclear and this new law is not in effect yet. But most likely she would claim you as a care giver.

I will try and get you more info on this.

  3. What he said ^.

The details have not been ironed out yet.

  4. I can help guide you if you want i am also in massachusetts and have been paying attention to the laws and drafts. you can be her caregiver, sidenote the newest draft states she can have two caregivers. I can speak to you if you want about what it is you will need to do to get her meds started also. this is no connection i would be looking for any payment or transactions . I am a patient and fast becoming a patient advocate. we can speak on facebook as well .... same for anyone who needs help I AM NOT A CAREGIVER or seeking any payment for my help . this includes help with finding a close Dr trustworthy that gives recommendations

  5. As written, under the current law, she can designate you as her caregiver and you can grow medicine for her without limitation (for the time being... its a loophole of sorts).

The draft laws (that are not active yet) that came out allow her to designate up to two caregivers, but only one can grow for her, and only if she qualifies for 'Hardship Cultivation', which is hardly easy to qualify for once dispensaries open up.

There are already a number of caregivers set up and working in MA helping patients. If she gets her card, Im willing to bet that you can get her some good meds pretty quickly. Im not fully up and running yet, but expecting to be helping patients by summers-end.

Check out CCMA (Compassionate Caregivers of MA). Local group that is all about doing exactly what you're looking to do for your grandma. Check it out... you'll get a LOT more, and better, details pertaining specifically to MA and your situation there than you will here.

    Just my $0.02

    And why is that?

edit: nevermind... just did a little research on CCMA and figured out which user you are.

Not interested in arguing here with you, but IMO you took some things the wrong way and blew things way out of proportion.

  8. So the patient can determine the caregiver.. Whats the reqs to be a caregiver?

  9. My leaving had nothing to do with any posts ( but thats me ) . the staff at CCMA are good people. I did blow up but i cant overstate thats nothing to do with my leaving.
