With the internet and satellite technology you can now sit at home and see how much sun your outdoor sites will get on any day. I like this suncalc.org site lets you click on satellite views and zoom in close enough to see details. It shows you the arc and shadow lengths as the Sun goes through the seasons. You can plug in say Sept 15 to see where the sun will be at harvest time. The more I've learned to use it the better data I get. I don't have any interest or association with them and it is free as other similar sites. Here's some random examples.
