I can dig it especially for being 19. Worry about gas mileage is over rated IMO. If you aren't skipping meals to fuel up then fuck it, but I believe the poster who mentioned mileage was referring to the car's odometer.

Take good care of it since its an older car(mileage speaking) and you should be good for a few years. I really like the way it looks
For 1500, not bad. Not a fan of VW anymore since my jettas engine literally broke on me and I wasn't even driving it hard at all. If I were you, I wouldn't lower it. It looks like you're in a snowy/icy state and dropping it means if you hit an ice-patch or snow gets too high you're gonna have a bitch of a time getting anywhere. You're 19, just drive it for now get a feel for it. Do what YOU want to do, but i'd advise against lowering.
