Battle of the Noises

  1. Hi, i have made myself indoor wall wardrobe, I have dampened the sound pretty well, on both sides of the exhaust I have placed couple pairs of pantyhose, that I love seeing on my woman. Exhaust is hanging on adjustable ropes, what I have problem with, is the airflow, the whoosh sound, and the clip on fan is noisy as hell, I have 2 setting one, still. At this point I have only option to buy speed fan regulator for exhaust, to minimise air flow, even though its not recommended for the fan, if its not already made for different speed setting, but it will have to do, unless there are different options. For clip on fan, ill get something more quieter I guess.

    Any thoughts appreciated,
    thank you

  2. A speed controller won't make much difference in the sound, I tried to dampen my fan but the sound comes out of the 4" hole. Try masking it with another sound, keep your radio on

  3. Thank you for your reply, I'll play something of the porn hub. I have ordered a 60cm x 120cm x 150cm tent. I have 1000w LED, which I think true wattage is a little below 300 mark, I believe. And I'll have to keep the light around 120cm from the plant, which is more than capable of doing with this tent. That led me to believe that my wardrobe setup makes more noise than actually needed, because its inside the wall and is out above stair case, and its not even a cement wall, its simple plaster board all way around it, closer to other rooms, and its not very efficient all together, besides, I wouldn't leave it running when I'm not at home, hence the tent, way easier and simple to adjust whatever is needed/add etc.

But the whoosh sound will still persist, but it will be managable way easier. Because tent will be place further in my room, but some dampening would be nice too.

Keep in mind, I'm trying to pull this off whilst living with the roomates :D

  4. A Variac controller will greatly help reduce motor noise, however the killer is usually the sound of air rushing through the ducts

You can build a muffler, and deadbox to help dampen that sound more- it will always exist to an extent but they both will really help in reducing it at least

  5. Thank you for your reply, ill see how it will sound in the tent ant exhaust duct placed close to open window, i cant drop it directly, without people seeing from the street, so ill screw it close to window, facing outside. Maybe that way, whoosh sound will be dampened in my room, and wont be loud enough for the outside ear

  6. I have the same problem as I live in a small block of flats and wen I turn everything off it sound like an aircraft lol I have my exhaust duct going through in to attic and next to the faicer outside had no complaints up to now but I'm pretty sure others can here expecially my next door Naibor any advice would be grateful thanks

  7. First thing make sure your exhaust is not too big for your grow area, that way you can get smaller exhaust if anything. Im renting a room in a house, and living with housemates, and im pulling this off :D You are in own apartment, there shouldnt be much issues, check my above posts the way I have setup my exhaust with pantyhose, that really dampens the sound of exhaust, and im left with airflow really. But I believe this will have no issue once the tent will arrive. I could of gone ahead with my wardrobe grow, but its not really effective and more cutting is needed for good airflow and stable temperatures, so I just ordered a tent because im lazy like that lol. Post some images of your setup and Im sure people will be more than willing to help.

  8. Thanks mate I do think I might be over paroniod at times lol just with it being my first one im not home at mo to post pics but I'm using a 6inch extractor in a 1.2 tent I got told it be ideal for my size tent?

  9. Im not sure but there is lots of info on google, you might wanna do that, and get straight forward info. I have 1000w LED which I think true wattage is below 500, and I run 4 inch exhaust , and ordered 60x120x150cm tent, and im positive it will keep temperatures stable.

  10. I'm a noob too but was suprised by my extraction fan noise it's a little less than my led lights noise from ther fans.

I'm getting around 40db on a free app test. My led lights mars read 45db.

My fan is twin speed rhino on its low setting. 160mh3 or wats it called.

I have the accustic duct with five 90° bends in too. I think bends cause more noise too?

The only thing is the accustic ducting is layed in that nasty loft insulation feels like needles. So I taped it up at the ends to contain the stuff.

You can also get silencers but they look expensive and the diy ones don't really sound that great.

Which led light do you have is that noisey as I'm looking for a quieter light now. 45db seems normal tho.

  11. I got bossled II 1000w, its same as kingled one, has twin fans, its a bit noisy, but not that bad to tell you the truth. I try taking led light apart, but its that easy, so I wanted too change fans to better ones. But its not really needed like, it kinda blends in with exhaust and is OK.

My 600w leds' 3 fans were so noisy that compromised all idea of stealth growing. So, I decided to remove them and installed one silent fan on-top of the leds to suck hot air out. Now its much more quiet. Also installed muffler at the end of exhaust channel. Next time I plan to build silencer around exhaust fan to cut all noises.
