Bathroom Fan for Ventilation??

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by thewidowmakers, Aug 13, 2007.

  1. Home Depot's cheapest bathroom exhaust fan is only about $13 and it's rated for @50 cfm which would be fine for the grow box and lighting that I would be using (it would replace the air in the box almost once every minute).

I'm curious if anyone here uses similar bathroom exhaust fans for their grow boxes?

All I seem to read about here are computer fans and other special brand exhaust fans....is there a reason I'm not aware of for NOT using your typical bathroom exhaust fan? Thanks!

  2. ya i would like to have one used because the others are so expensive

the only thing is ."IS the bathroom one noisy?

  3. The $13 fan I looked at wasn't especially noisy or anything...I actually took it out of the box at home depot and plugged it in to listen to it....so I think it will do just fine. Regardless, I won't have to worry about fan noise where the box is anyway...

  4. sounds good to me

  5. The Bathroom fans work just fine for venting....if
you do not need to "Push" air thru a carbon filter and noise is not a factor....when in the house alone you will hear it.
it helps to use rubber between all mounting surfaces.
they will all squeal a lil on start-up after awhile(it goes away in a second or two)...some of them run forever...others have problems at 6-8 months of being turned on and off several times a day (Temp-Hum control)
Kinda the luck of the draw :smoking:

  6. thanks for the help DOC

  7. I get it....so the bathroom fan would not be a good choice if I was intending to use some type of carbon scrubber down the road.

What do you suggest I use for an approx. 70cf box with CFL's that perhaps Home Depot sells?

    Thanks!

  8. Look on line for a Dayton Squirrel Cage fan, get a part # and start callin around yer' town for it ;)
    Call "Stove Shops"
Home of De Pot may be able to get ya' one :D

  9. Thanks Doc....I'm gonna start off with the bathroom exhaust fan 'cause it's cheap and I think it will work based upon my space and how I plan to exhaust into a bucket full of ONA.

If I run into any problems, I'll reach deeper in my pocket and pay for the Dayton mid-grow...

    Thanks!
