Hi GC growing pros! Please help! I need some advice. My wife found a bunch of bananas in a bud on one of my flowering girls. I have poured all over this plant and can find no others. Should I just cut off this branch and keep an eye on it? Would I be wise to early harvest this one plant? The strain is unknown, some kind of sativa dom, I guess. This is day 38 of 12/12, although preflowers started a month prior to that and this plant, along with 3 others, just kept on preflowering kinda heavy under 24/0. I don't know if that's normal or not. All four of these plants went through a major stress event, but after a couple of weeks of misdiagnosis, I was finally able to nurse them back to health. Problem was pH, but didn't figure it out until I almost killed them with nutes. So I guess I might have expected some hermie action. Note that they were all healthy before 12/12 was started. Pics below – the hermie bunch, a sample cola, and a shot of the whole plant. This is my first experience with hermieness. Note that I have 7 other plants flowering in this same room – the four mentioned and my LED grow of 2 white widows and 2 super skunks. What should I do? What would you do? I gotta cut out for a while, but I'll check back in a hour or so and hopefully find some sound advice. Thanks in advance for any help!
i just had a friend who had a plant go hermie about a week before it was ready. he said fuck it and harvested to prevent seeds. unless you could could use the seeds. either way, i would remove it from the rest of the girls. check out my grow. http://forum.grasscity.com/general-indoor-growing/531815-1000w-mh-hps-lst-scrog-dwc-first-grow.html
Thanks KOG, for the advice and for the compliment on my confused girl. I'm pretty sure I will take your advice, just not tonight. Man, that's a tuff decision! I'm going to go over it one more time so that I can feel comfortable that there won't be any pollen release overnight, but yeh, I guess it'll be my first harvest by tomorrow. Bummer. On the other hand, I have a super silver haze bush in the veg room that's been waiting for an opening in the 12/12 room, and a clone of my favorite girl (super skunk SS-1) that needs an opening in the veg room. The cycle of life goes on!
Hope you get this in time! Make sure they are actually bananas b4 you do anything. I had these banana-looking growths pop out in pairs all over the place. I freaked out and started snipping away until one of them opened and pistils emerged, now they have grown into mini buds. From the picture I saw it looked just like what I had. If you have a good magnifier, cut one open and look for two thin brown hairs. If you see hairs then your cool, if you see yellow powder chop! Waste one plant or pollinate your whole crop? Its a tough call for a first timer to make correctly, I was pulling my hair out all week until it got resolved.
Hey Closet dude, I got your post in time, but I don't think it changes anything. I gotta believe that these are what people refer to as "bananas" (i.e hermie male flowers). I've got 8 flowering plants and none of them have had anything like this. They truely looked like a bunch of yellow bananas sticking out of some baby leaves below a popcorn bud - pretty easy to spot too because of the bright coloring. Anyway, I just cut one open to look at it with my scope - didn't need the scope - yellow powder! I think I'll take a shower and change my clothes before I go back to see my other girlsa again! At this point, my wife and son are so excited about a mini-harvest tonight that I my choice is probably already made! Thanks for chiming in and making me feel better about the chop decision!
Thanx Jay - Yeh, I've read that too, as well as a lot of posts that just say to remove it. I guess I'll take the wuss approach and just get it out and away.
